Sea Dogs At Development Camps

WILD
Minnesota Wild prospects are not currently at a development camp. Instead, many of them are taking part in a summer road tour with the club. Charlie Coyle is one of the trippers.

"I haven't ever experienced anything like this before," Coyle told the New Ulm Journal on Wednesday. "This has always been a dream of mine and so far the experience has been great."

The road trip ended on Thursday. All of the details can be found on the Wild website.

SENATORS
Ottawa Senators development camp began on Tuesday and runs until Monday. Former Sea Dogs forward Mike Hoffman, who made his National Hockey League debut last season, is once again at the camp.

Hoffman scored in Thursday’s scrimmage as he skated on the top line with Mark Stone and Jean-Gabriel Pageau.

“He was, as mentioned, on the top line of the scrimmage, and he scored the lone goal during actual play (I think Cole Schneider scored on a penalty shot, but I can't say for sure; didn't get a good look),” writes Peter Raaymakers of Silver Sevens. “Hoffman had a good level of intensity all game, and he's got flow that would make Milan Michalek jealous. He led the B-Sens in scoring last year, and will turn a few heads in Ottawa's training camp.”

Hoffman registered 21 goals and 28 assists with the AHL’s Binghamton Senators last year.

PREDATORS
Nashville Predators development camp also opened on Tuesday and takes place until Sunday. On-ice workouts took place on Tuesday and Thursday and will happen again today and tomorrow.

The Preds website says that most of their draft picks from the past four years will be in attendance which includes former Sea Dogs defenseman Charles Roussel.

Not much coverage of this camp from the Nashville media. Roussel tweeted this last night.

CANUCKS
Vancouver Canucks development camp is underway as well and as we mentioned the other day former Sea Dogs goaltender Mathieu Corbeil is taking part in the camp as a free agent invitee.

According to the Canucks report, “after lunch the prospects, all 35 of them, walked from Rogers Arena to False Creek to take part in some dragon boating. No one went overboard and in addition to the monster arm workout, the prospects jelled as a unit. There's a buzz around the boys now, it took them a day and a half to get acquainted, but now they're all basically BFFs.”

The camp runs until Monday.

WINGS
Detroit Red Wings Development Camp begins on July 7 in Traverse City. The camp goes until July 13. Tomas Jurco, a second round pick of the Wings last year, will be one the players participating.

PANTHERS
Florida Panthers development camp begins on Monday and ends on Friday, July 6.

“The development camp gives our prospects an opportunity to understand the amount of commitment that is necessary to play and be successful at the NHL-level,” said Florida Panthers Executive V.P. & General Manager Dale Tallon in a team release. “We have put together a comprehensive week that includes on-ice practices, as well as off-ice sessions that emphasize the importance of strength and conditioning, nutrition, teamwork, mental skills and several other training exercises that can lead to being successful at the professional level. We look forward to seeing our fans at the Saveology.com Iceplex throughout the week.”

Jonathan Huberdeau, considered Florida’s best prospect by many, will be in attendance.

PENGUINS
The full roster has not been made available yet, but Simon Despres will be one of the skaters at Pittsburgh Penguins development camp. The camp begins on July 10 and goes until the 14th at CONSOL Energy Centre.

According to the Pens website, “the group of rookies and prospects will be in Pittsburgh taking part in on-ice practice and scrimmage sessions, undergoing medical and fitness testing and attending meetings and seminars.”

LIGHTNING
Tampa Bay Lightning development camp begins on Tuesday. Former Sea Dog Danick Gauthier, who signed with the Lightning as a free agent in March, will be in attendance.
