DOGS COMEBACK TO WIN AGAIN

Sydney- Neither wins were perfect, but the Saint John Sea Dogs are coming home with smiling faces after defeating the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 4-3 at Centre 200. The Sea Dogs improve to 2-0-0-0 while the Eagles fall to 1-1-0-0.

Saint John got on the board early as Olivier Oullet scored just 15 seconds into the first period. Oullet gobbled up a rebound and sent a shot past Cape Breton goalie Christopher Holden. Olivier Roy, the Eagles number one net minder, is at Edmonton Oilers training camp.

At 15:32 Brad Cuzner scored the first goal of his career as he sent a wrister high glove side over Marc-Antoine Gelinas. That tied the game 1-1.

Gelinas continued to look shaky in the first period as Stephen Horyl scored at 12:06. Horyl sent the puck upstairs to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Alexandre Leduc took a slashing penalty at 9:44 to give Cape Breton a power play. Horyl scored his second of the game and second of the season at 8:36. Assists went to Nick McNeil and Francis Meillur as Horyl took the one timer from the face off dot and fired a shot under the right arm of Gelinas.

With the Eagles leading 3-1 to start the second, the Sea Dogs came out firing. Slovakian import Tomas Jurco picked up a Zach Phillips rebound to reduce the lead to one. Kevin Gagne also got an assist on the goal at 16:15.

At 6:12 Olivier Oullet got his second of the game on a beautiful deke. Oullet came off the bench on a pass from Benjamin Lecomte and went on solo rush to tie the game 3-3.

Sea Dogs goalie Marc-Antoine Gelinas came over his first period jitters and made some terrific saves.

The comeback became was complete when veteran center Michael Kirkpatrick sent a pass to second year defenseman Nathan Beaulieu. Beaulieu took the pass and one-timed it for what would be the eventual game winner at 11:44.

Marc-Antoine Gelinas made several amazing saves including one in the final second to save the game for Saint John. The Sea Dogs were out shot 42-26.

Notes: The attendance was 2,887... The Sea Dogs are now off to there best start in franchise history with two straight wins to start the season... Michael Kirkpatrick had two assists in his season debut... Defenseman Kevin Gagne now has three assists on the season... After a three goal performance on Friday vs the Mooseheads, Cape Breton's Michael Stinziani was held pointless... This was Marc-Antoine Gelinas' first game as Sea Dog. His pads are still sporting the Gatineau purple.

Next Game: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles vs Saint John Sea Dogs. Saturday, September. 19, at 7:00 pm at Harbour Station. This will be Saint John's home opener and fans are asked to be in there seats at 6:45 pm for pre-game festivities. The second annual Sea Dogs fan fest takes place at 4:00 pm outside Harbour Station.
