SEA DOGS NOTEBOOK

NOTHING LEFT TO SAY
The Saint John Sea Dogs have been listed as Rogers Sportsnet’s QMJHL “Hot Team” for so long there are no good titles left to use. Saint John is on a CHL season best 17 game winning streak with the Barrie Colts currently behind them with 14. Here is what Patrick King had to say this week on the Dogs.

“The surging Sea Dogs aced another two big tests while keeping their impressive 17-game winning-streak alive,” wrote King. “Saint John defeated division-leaders Drummondville and Québec by two goals each on big performances from overage forwards Mike Hoffman and Nicholas Petersen. The winning-streak is fifth-best in league history and seven wins shy of tying the record.”

The publication also named this Wednesday’s game in PEI the QMJHL “Game of the Week.”

“The Sea Dogs may have revenge on their minds when they head to Charlottetown for a heated Atlantic Division tilt,” said King. “The Rocket handed the Sea Dogs two of their five losses this season and are the last team to have beat Saint John. P.E.I. shutout the high-flying Sea Dogs, 4-0, the last time they hosted Saint John on Oct. 13. The Rocket is also beginning to take flight with five-straight wins but remain 16 points behind the Sea Dogs for the top spot in the division.”

After Saint John’s road game on Wednesday in Charlottetown, they return home for a pair of games. On Saturday the Gatineau Olympics come to town on “Holiday Fun Night” at Harbour Station. The arena will be decorated in Christmas décor while the fifth annual Teddy Bear Toss will take place after the Sea Dogs first goal. The toys will be donated to charity. Game time is 7:00 pm and be sure to bring a stuffed animal.

On Sunday, the Sea Dogs host the Lewiston MAINEiacs at 4:00 pm. It will be family fun day with the special 4-for$40 ticket special in place. There will also be live entertainment on the concourse as well as a post-game autograph session.

PETERSEN TOPS ON TSN
Nicholas Petersen’s strong weekend allowed him to move up to the number one spot in the TSN Player Rankings this week. He had an overall rating of 88.89. His team mate Marc-Antoine Gelinas was the victom of facing two offensive styled teams this week and fell from the top spot all the way to number seven.

HOWES FEATURED ON NHL.COM
Former Saint John Sea Dogs forward Scott Howes was featured in an article on nhl.com today. Howes, who holds the Sea Dogs record for most goals scored in a season with 42, is currently playing for the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL.

"To me, he looks like a guy who has the American League in his sights," said Victoria coach Mark Morrison. "From when he gets the puck there's a little jump that separates him. He has the possibility where he should be a point a game guy. He is creative. With confidence, you are going to see it coming out more."
