WILDCATS "OUTRAGED" OVER HIT

The Moncton Wildcats have responded to the Mike Thomas hit on Alex Wall last Friday at Harbour Station. The Sea Dogs' Thomas was suspended for one game automatically and then received a five game suspension yesterday.

The defenseman has been diagnosed with “concussion like symptoms.” Wall lay on the ice for a few minutes before leaving under his own power.

The following was taken from today’s Daily Gleaner newspaper and was written by Wildcats reporter Neil Hodge.

Moncton is still outraged at the vicious hit that Saint John forward Mike Thomas, a native of Fredericton, delivered on Wall last Friday night. It happened late in the third period of the Wildcats' 4-3 shootout win over the Sea Dogs.

Thomas streaked from the centre red line in behind Moncton's net and had a big head of steam when he nailed Wall. Wall fell heavily to the ice, laid there motionless for several minutes and received medical attention before finally making his way back to the bench.

Thomas received a major penalty for charging and game misconduct. It was his fifth Code 4 infaction this season and that means he's automatically suspended until the league makes a ruling on whether further punishment against him is required.

Thomas is known as a physical player and one of the top fighters in the QMJHL.

"It's now in the league's hands,'' said Flynn."We've sent in video (of the Thomas hit on Wall) and it's up to the league to investigate and make what they think is the right decision.

"All I can say is we've sent the tape in. That in itself demonstrates we think this is a reviewable situation and it warrants further action, but it's up to the league to do its due dilligence and hopefully make the right decision.''

Wall is an offensive defenceman who has 29 points, including six goals, in 62 games. That includes 10 points in 22 games since being traded from Montreal Juniors to Moncton.

It's questionable whether Wall and Downe will recover from their concussions in time for the opening playoff round, added Flynn.
