"COUZY" NAMED CHL NET MINDER OF THE WEEK

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Marco Cousineau of the Saint John Sea Dogs is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending April 18. Cousineau won two games in net with a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .952.

Cousineau and the Sea Dogs opened the QMJHL Semi-Finals Friday night with a 4-2 win over the Victoriaville Tigres. Trailing 2-0 early in the first period, Cousineau stood his ground and made 27 saves including 11 in the third period as the Sea Dogs battled back for the win. In Game 2 on Saturday night, he made 32 saves including 15 in the third period as second star of the game to preserve a 5-1 win for his 10th victory of the playoffs giving the Sea Dogs a 2-0 series lead.

Cousineau, a 20-year-old from Les Cedres, QC, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season. Selected in the third round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, Cousineau won the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the Most Outstanding Goaltender of the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup as a member of the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Mavric Parks of the Barrie Colts was considered for the second straight week posting a 2-1-0-0 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 2.00 and save percentage of .934. The Colts currently lead the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors 3-1 in the Rogers OHL Eastern Conference Finals. Last week’s winner Drew Owsley was strong again in goal for the Tri-City Americans with a 1-1-0-0 record including a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 2.51 and save percentage of .918. The Americans are tied 1-1 with the Vancouver Giants in the Kal Tire WHL Western Conference Finals.
