CANADA STRIKES GOLD

For the third straight year, Canada struck gold at Memorial of Ivan Hlinka under-18 hockey tournament.

“The victory for Canada is their third straight Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament victory and gives them 6 victories in their last 7 trips to the tournament,” reports NiagraIceDogs.net.

One goal was all it took to defeat the United States in the Gold Medal Final today in Piestany, Slovakia. Standout forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored at 1:42 of the first period to ultimately give the Canadians a 1-0 victory.

Tyson Teichmann stopped all 22-shots in the win. Canada fired 24 towards the Americans.

The victors have now won 13 straight tournament games, including all four they played in this year’s edition. In total, Canada outscored their opponents 26-9 en route to gold.

The lone Saint John Sea Dog in the event, Jonathan Huberdeau, finished the tournament with three assists.
