PLAYERS REPORT FOR TRAINING CAMP

The boys are back in town.

Saint John Sea Dogs training campers arrived at Harbour Station this morning for an eventful opening day. According to the Sea Dogs’ website, players took part in “registration, orientation, and fitness evaluations.”

“It’s great to be back at the rink,” said Michael Kirkpatick to SaintJohnSeaDogs.com. “Last year was a lot of fun and hopefully we can contend for a title again this season. A good, productive training camp will be really important to our success and everyone is anxious to get on the ice and get things going.”

From the Sea Dogs website:

In an interview with CBC Radio’s Information Moring this morning, Sea Dogs Head Coach Gerard Gallant said that he is taking a similar approach as he did to last year’s training camp – where the coach had not seen or met the majority of the team’s players. By doing so, even returning players who are all but locks to make the team will have to work just as hard at training camp.
After officially registering for camp in Harbour Station’s main lobby on Tuesday morning, all players proceeded to check their gear in with Equipment Manager David Kelly prior to reporting to Athletic Therapist Jeff Kelly for their official weigh-in. In the afternoon, all training camp participants took part in an arduous fitness circuit which included bench press, vertical leap, and chin-up tests. The top performers in each category can be seen below:

Bench Press: Mike Thomas, 23 reps x 185 lbs. (Runner Up: Christian Morin with 22 reps x 185 lbs.)

Vertical Jump: Steven Anthony, 30.5” (Runner Up: Brock Morrison, 29”)

Chin-Ups: Stephen MacAulay, 20 (Runner Up: Mike Thomas, 19)

The first public viewing of the Sea Dogs will be held tomorrow morning at 10:00 am when group ‘A’ takes to the ice for a practice at Harbour Station. Group ‘B’ practices at 11:05 am and a scrimmage will be held at 2:00-4:00 pm.

The teams first pre-season game is Saturday at 7:00 pm at Harbour Station against Halifax.
