Chronicle Herald writer Willy Palov had a column on Friday naming one player from each of the 18 QMJHL teams as a player to follow.
In the Saint John category: Michael Kirkpatrick.
“The North Sydney native seems to improve exponentially with every viewing. He finished tied for eighth in regular season scoring in 2009-10 and was first in playoff production,” writes Palov. “Can he make yet another gain this year?”
ON THE TUBE
The Quebec television station “Canel Vox” has released its QMJHL broadcasting schedule for the upcoming season. The channel will broadcast 22 regular season Friday night games.
One Sea Dogs game will be aired. The channel will broadcast the February 25th game in Gatineau.
SCHOOL IS IN SESSION
Despite what you may have heard, former Sea Dogs goaltender Travis Fullerton will be playing at the University of New Brunswick once again this season. Rumors had been flying around Fredericton that Fullerton was heading to the East Coast Hockey League.
“It's a great opportunity for them," said UNB Head Coach Gardiner MacDougall to the Daily Gleaner about his goaltenders – Fullerton and Derek Yeomans. "We're hosting the national championship and they're playing in a prominent position. It's an exciting opportunity for them."
In 76 career regular season games with Saint John, Fullerton has a record of 30-37.
SOFTBALL ACTION

Members of the Saint John Sea Dogs will once again face the Saint John Police Force All-Stars in a charity softball match this year, with Memorial Field set to play host to the latest edition of this ever-popular fundraising event on Tuesday, September 7 beginning at 6pm. The Sea Dogs currently trail the all-time series between themselves and the SJPF All-Stars 3-2.

The QMJHL website recently completed a question and answer session with Sea Dogs forward Jonathan Huberdeau.
One of the more interesting questions was: “To conclude is there something you want people to know about yourself?”
His response:
"Maybe. I don’t really like to talk about it, but I love to sing! My sister is a really good singer; she does contests and she sings the national anthem at some hockey games. As for myself, I’m just content with singing in the shower!"
CAMERON ON BIG BROTHER
Sea Dogs prospect Jason Cameron admitted to The Guardian following Thursday’s loss that it’s tough being the younger brother of Randy Cameron.
“Yeah, they’re huge shoes (to fill)," he said. "A lot of pressure to live up to, but I want to make a name for myself.”
He’s older brother, who played with the Moncton Wildcats last season, will be taking his skills to the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers this season.
According to the QMJHL website, Jason played in all six Sea Dogs pre-season games. The left winger recorded no points and had four penalty minutes.
Halifax Mooseheads play-by-play man John Moore tweeted last week that former Sea Dogs goaltender Robert Mayer is one of three goalies attending Montreal Canadiens rookie camp. Moore reports that he will be joined by Lewiston MAINEiacs net minder Nicholas Champion and Mooseheads goalie Peter Delmas.
Last season, Mayer went 19-10 with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, helping the team capture a league championship.
CANUCKS CAMP SET TO GO NEXT WEEK
The Vancouver Canucks announced their roster for rookie camp on Thursday. 27 players are scheduled to report to Rogers Arena (formerly known as GM Place) on Friday, September 10th for pre-training camp medicals and testing. The group will hit the ice for the first time on the same day at 1:30pm. Sunday, September 12th, the prospects will travel to Penticton, BC, to open the Young Stars Tournament.
The roster includes Sea Dogs defenceman Yann Sauve and forward Steven Anthony, meaning neither will be available when Saint John opens the season next Friday.
Also at the camp is PEI Rocket (the team Saint John plays in their season opener) defenseman Adam Polasek.

Halifax Mooseheads left winger Luke Warner left quit an impression on Sea Dogs fans on Wednesday night at Harbour Station, recording four penalty minutes and putting on a good show in the penalty box.

“Warner, who had one assist and 11 penalty minutes in five QMJHL pre-season games, made a solid impression with his agitating style, physical play and willingness to drop the gloves,” reports Matthew Wuest of Metro Halifax after Warner was cut on Thursday. “But the addition of Czech standout Martin Frk meant there wasn't room to keep Warner around.”
“The 5-foot-11 190-pounder will report to the junior A Bridgewater Lumberjacks.”
