GALIEV TO JOIN RUSSIANS FOR SUPER SERIES

As most expected, Stanislav Galiev will suit up for Russia at the 2010 Subway Super Series. The Telegraph-Journal confirmed the news this morning, meaning Galiev will join four of his Saint John Sea Dogs teammates in the November 8 game at Harbour Station.

By playing for his home country in the game, it will surly help his chances of achieving his goal of making Russia’s world junior team this December.

"We've talked on the phone,” said Galiev abut the national team to Sport-Express (translated into English by Slava Malamud on Japers’ Rink) about a month ago. “I think I will play in the Super Series that will be held this fall in Canada. That will be a place for me to show what I can do. The desire, of course, is great."

Galiev is expected to play in both Quebec Major Junior Hockey League hosted games. The first match will be in Saint John on Monday, November 8 while game two is slated for Wednesday, November 10 in Drummondville. Both games, as well as the Ontario Hockey League and Western Hockey League games, will be broadcast on Rogers Sportsnet.

The sophomore will be part of the opposition for fellow Sea Dogs forwards Jonathan Huberdeau and Zach Phillips along with defensemen Nathan Beaulieu and Simon Despres for both games.

Each year some of the top end Russians from each CHL league suit up for their country when they make the journey to each circuit. Back in 2008 when Saint John hosted the event formally known as the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge, current Florida Panther Dmitry Kulikov played for the Russians.
The full roster for the Russian team that will compete in this tournament has yet to have been announced.

There may be a problem here, however.

“I never wished to eat something from Subway or McDonald’s,” said Galiev via Russian Machine Never Breaks on April 4th.

With Subway holding the naming rights to the event, can Galiev fight through the adversity?
