Jonathan Huberdeau has proven to be a rather sick being over the past year.
We’ve all seen what the 2011 NHL top prospect can do in a shootout, but now he is bringing his moves to regulation play. This could be seen in the Saint John Sea Dogs’ 7-3 win against the Val-d’Or Foreurs on Friday night at the Air Creebec Centre.
The goal came at 10:20 of the second period – shorthanded no less. Mike Thomas had scored 50 seconds earlier on the same penalty kill.
This move was a bit different than what Huberdeau is usually known for. Most often, his highlight reel goals come on a breakaway or in a shootout, but moving around the Foreurs defenseman on that play was quite magnificent. Then to finish it off he made an unreal spin move within tight quarters to rip the forehand shot past a stunned Francois Tremblay.
On Saturday evening in Rouyn-Noranda, Huberdeau went back to his day job and pulled off his signature backhand-to-forehand deke in one of his best played games of the season.
Huberdeau currently leads the Sea Dogs in scoring with 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points.
