PRE-GAME: vs Cape Breton Screaming Eagles

GAME DAY
Cape Breton Screaming Eagles vs Saint John Sea Dogs
Tonight, March 5, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Harbour Station

PREVIEW
SAINTJOHN – A grand total of 68 points separate them in the standings as a potential first-round playoff preview goes down this evening at 7:00 pm at Harbour Station.

Tonight, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles are in town to take on Canada’s best, the Saint John Sea Dogs, in a huge mismatch. With five games remaining for the Eagles, they still have not officially clinched a playoff spot. But with an eight point lead on lowly Baie-Comeau, they should be able to sneak in.

Cape Breton is still jockeying for playoff positioning with the Halifax Mooseheads who sit 15th overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Herd have a two-point lead over the Eagles entering play tonight. Whoever finishes 15th will likely play Montreal while the 16th ranked seed will likely play Saint John.

With tonight’s match being a possible preview of the opening round of the post-season, Cape Breton will surely try and show they will not go down lightly. They have beaten Saint John once this season, as a late goal gave them a 2-1 win over the Dogs early in the season.

These two teams have not played each other since a weekend doubleheader in mid-December. They will have an opportunity to get to know each other this month as they meet three teams. If the two meet in the first-round of the playoffs, they will play a minimum of seven times in March.

The Eagles have been struggling of late. In their past two games, they have been outscored 16-1, allowing eight goals in both matches. They are 2-7-0-1 over their past 10 games and have been outscored 34-15 over that span.

Cape Breton is coming off an 8-1 loss in Bathurst last night. It was the second game of a three-game road trip through the Maritimes Division that ends tonight in Saint John.

The Sea Dogs are coming off an entertaining 5-4 overtime win against the Moncton Wildcats last evening. Saint John had their struggles at times and will look to correct a few things tonight.
