RECAPS
A collection of recaps on last night’s Memorial Cup win:

Scott Briggs’ recap. The Canadian Hockey League championship didn’t get away from Jacob DeSerres this year.

Marty Klinkenberg’s recap. “It is almost hard for me to describe right now” – Jonathan Huberdeau

The Mississauga News’ recap. “You never get used to the losing” – Dave Cameron

The Canadian Press’ recap. “Once again, Dave Cameron's team came up short when it mattered most.”

Rogers Sportsnet’s recap. “The Saint John Sea Dogs captured the franchise’s first MasterCard Memorial Cup in just their sixth season of existence.”

NHL.com’s recap. “I was almost so excited and so happy you don't show it. It's just all inside" – Jacob DeSerres

The National Post’s recap. “I have the simplest job title in the world — just stop the puck. But I think goalies probably have the most complicated minds” – Jacob DeSerres

The Toronto Sun’s recap. “Before he passed away, I told my father I thought we had a chance to win a trophy” – Scott McCain

Yahoo! Sports’ recap. “To be on the other side is probably the worst feeling I’ve ever felt” – Justin Shugg

SAINT JOHN SCTRATCHES
All hands were on deck last night with the exception of Jason Cameron who is still recovery from a bruised kidney. He was at the game though and celebrated with the team afterwards.

Healthy scratches were forwards Aidan Kelly and Devon Oliver-Dares, defensemen Jason Seed and Spencer MacDonald, and goaltender Jacob Edwards.

ANTHONY PLAYS HURT
Steven Anthony made his Memorial Cup debut last night. He had not played since Game One of the President’s Cup final because of a knee injury. It was officially revealed today, via Metro Halifax, that he played through a torn MCL.

“I didn’t notice it that much,” Anthony said to Metro. “A few times I did … but I had it taped up, I had a brace on and a sleeve that limited the movement. But once in a while it would (hurt) and I’d wince but there was so much adrenaline in the game I didn’t notice it until afterward.”

He didn’t seem to play as much as he usually would but he was noticeable at times on the ice.

Metro adds that he was “nowhere near 100 percent.”

DESPRES GOAL
Simon Despres was very impressive in this tournament. He was nothing short of a beast.

He opened the scoring at 2:24 while the Sea Dogs were shorthanded as he sniped the puck past Majors goaltender JP Anderson.

Unless the entire Pittsburgh Penguins organization folds over the summer, Despres will be in the professional ranks next year.

SAFE FLIGHT
Tweeted by defenseman Pierre Durepos, the Cup had a safe flight to Saint John.

DeSERRES WAS UNREAL
Jacob DeSerres played the game of his life to erase the memories of what happened in last year’s final with the Brandon Wheat Kings. He was sensational, making so many robberies with his right leg that Rogers Sportsnet analyst Sam Cosentino wanted the body part nominated for MVP.

He made 34 stops in the win – including 15 in the second period and 11 in the third.

Post-game:

QUICK HITS
Gerard Gallant and Mike Kelly won the battle of PEI over Dave Cameron… Justin Shugg of the Majors failed to win his third straight Memorial Cup… there was an EJ McGuire tribute before the game… the pre-game ceremony was a long one. The game didn’t start until 8:37 pm AST… The Dogs may or may not have dedicated this win to Louise, the QMJHL representative in the shoot-for-a-million intermission contest that went horribly, horribly wrong… if you haven’t heard, Saint John is the first Maritime team to in the Memorial Cup… to relive the game, check out the SN Live Blog Replay.

JUNKIES
Steve Dangle posted this interesting video of some “Junior Hockey Junkie” Saint John fans.

Unbelievable footage.
