SEA DOGS NOTEBOOK

CRAIG BUTTON FAIL
The NHL Network’s Craig Button loves Jonathan Huberdeau. But as seen around the 1:25 mark of this interview with SNY, Button seems to think Huberdeau is playing for UNBSJ.

PARD SIGNS IN FRANCE
Former Sea Dog Nicholas Pard has signed with the Brest Albatros, a pro-team in France.

Pard played ‘AAA’ in Quebec this past season with the Joliette Traffic (a website you should really visit with your speakers cranked up) and recorded a ridiculous 47 goals and 45 assists in 43 games. He added 15 goals and 15 helpers in 13 playoff games.

He spent parts of three seasons with Saint John. In 2009-10, he registered 15 goals and 12 assists in 64 games.

FAN FEST BACK ON
The Fan Fest that was originally scheduled for last Saturday outside Harbour Station will now be held this Friday. From the Sea Dogs:

To celebrate Saint John’s second consecutive appearance in the league final, the Sea Dogs will host a special President’s Cup Fan Fest outside the arena before Game 5. Beginning at 5 p.m., the Fan Fest will feature face painting, music and a Children’s Wish Foundation barbecue sponsored by Atlantic Superstore.
THE CASE FOR BEAULIEU
The always excellent Bruins 2011 Draft Watch takes a look at the possibility of the Boston Bruins drafting Sea Dogs defenseman Nathan Beaulieu this June.

A quote from an NHL Eastern Conference Scout:

“He's such a smart, character kid. He's exactly the kind of player you want on your team- has some real offensive potential but I keep going back to his character and the fact that he brings his best to any situation."

STING MAKE IT OFFICIAL
Former Sea Dogs head coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu officially signed with the Sarnia Sting today. Like in Saint John, he will have both roles in Sarnia.

Beaulieu signed a three-year deal with the club, reports the Sting website.

“Jacques comes from a winning organization with the Knights and he built a winning team in Saint John,” said team president Larry Ciccarelli. “I want to thank the Knights and the Hunters for endorsing Jacques. We couldn’t talk to him until after 6 p.m. Saturday when the draft was finished. Mark (Hunter) told me then Jacques the guy you want.”

The Sting will be getting plenty of attention next season thanks to Nail Yakupov who could go first overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He recorded an incredible 49 goals and 52 assists in his rookie season.

SN MAKING NEWS
The Shawinigan newspaper L’Hebdo du St. Maurice had a story on QMJHL players and Twitter this past week. The article features a few lines from Cameron’s “QMJHL Twitter All-Star Team” post from a few weeks ago.

CLERMONT WINS AGAIN
Gatineau Olympiques netminder Maxime Clermont has been named the CHL Goaltender of the Week for a second straight week. From a CHL release:

In Game one of the finals against the Saint John Sea Dogs on Thursday, Clermont made 35 saves despite a 2-1 loss receiving second star honours. He then made 38 saves to backstop the Olympiques to a 3-2 win on Saturday where he was named third star of the game. The Sea Dogs took Game three of the series 5-0 on Monday night and currently lead 2-1.
It’s the third time a QMJHL goaltender has won the award this post-season.
