SEA DOGS NOTEBOOK

JAYS GAME

The Sea Dogs took in the Houston Astros - Toronto Blue Jays game at Rogers Centre yesterday. Pierre Durepos tweeted the above picture.

SAD TIMES
Rogers Sportsnet’s “junior hockey panel” of Darren Millard, Doug MacLean, and Nick Kypreos has been, well, interesting.

Before the Owen Sound – Kootenay game last night, Kypreos hilariously mispronounced Huberdeau’s name as “Hoo-ba-doo.”

The Sea Dogs media guide that was handed out to media covering the tournament lists “HYOO-bear-doo” as the correct saying.

ANOTHER DeSERRES STORY
Yet another story on Jacob DeSerres’ road to redemption. This one from the Windsor Star.

“Looking back at the end of last year, I never would have thought of this as a situation that would be happening, but I couldn't be more thankful,” DeSerres said. “It couldn't have turned out better. I don't think there's a team in the CHL that I'd rather be on right now.”
ANTHONY SIGNS
There has been no official announcement but there have been plenty of reports that Steven Anthony has signed a contract with the Vancouver Canucks.

"It was a pretty awesome day," said Anthony to Mississauga.com on Friday.

"If you have one of those things in a day, it's pretty special. I'm really excited to get the contract but honestly, the Memorial Cup win is the biggest thing because I've played for the Sea Dogs the whole year to win the Memorial Cup and to get the first win tonight is definitely part of it."

Anthony is still suffering from a lower body injury he suffered in Game One of the President’s Cup final and is questionable for Monday’s game against Owen Sound.

The Canucks drafted Anthony in the seventh round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

HUBERDEAU’S HAIR
Mississauga.com spoke to Jonathan Huberdeau about his “unique” playoff hair style.

"I don't have a big beard so I wanted to get my sideburns going," Huberdeau said of his new hairdo."
THE BILLETS
As News 88.9 reports, this is also an exciting for Sea Dogs billets.

"Yeah you do, I mean how can you not", said Simon Despres’ billet John Trivett. " You've got a kid that you've had for four years who has become a fixture around the house. You can't help but do it with that emotion."
McCAIN STICKERS

We meant to post this awhile ago, but here is the sticker that the Sea Dogs are wearing on their helmets in honour of Wallace McCain as tweeted by Jeff Hopkins.

TALKING STARS
Gerard Gallant talking about the future of his young stars.

ON THE DOGS
Justin Fisher has a blog post up on SteveDangle.com on the Sea Dogs’ first game of the tournament.

What makes the Saint John Sea Dogs such an incredible story is quite simply their age. While each team has between ten and fifteen players born either in 1992 or later, it’s the Sea Dogs top players that are young. Outside of Simon Depres, the Pittsburgh Penguins 30th overall pick of the 2009 NHL Draft, the Sea Dogs’ top players haven’t yet been drafted.
PEI CONNECTION
Yahoo! Sports has a solid article on the PEI connections that can be found behind the Mississauga and Saint John bench. When asked which team the Island is supporting:

“I’d have to say it was two-thirds for me and Mike because there’s two of us and only one of Dave,” says Gallant.
Sea Dogs defenseman Spencer MacDonald also speaks about his PEI hockey roots in the article.

VIDEOS
The Memorial Cup website has plenty of post-game videos from Friday’s game posted.

NHL.COM ARTICLE
Bill Hoppe had a piece on Jonathan Huberdeau posted on NHL.com yesterday. Among other things, Huberdeau’s focus on academics is discussed.

"That's what's intriguing about him," Kelly said. "He comes from a very, very modest sort of family. That's why there were questions (about) whether or not he was going to come to the league, because school's very important to him, and once you're able to answer those questions, he wants to play."
