SEA DOGS NOTEBOOK

CITY FLAG

COMBINE
After winning the Memorial Cup and spending a couple days celebrating, several Sea Dogs players are now attending the National Hockey League’s Draft Combine in Toronto.

Six Sea Dogs were invited to attend - Nathan Beaulieu, Jonathan Huberdeau, Tomas Jurco, Scott Oke, Zack Phillips, and Ryan Tesink.

The best place for coverage is by visiting the draft combine blog on NHL.com.

Brian Huddle over at Hockey Buzz noted this via Twitter:

Nathan Beaulieu has made sure to mention fellow Sea Dog and Draft-Eligible, Ryan Tesink in each interview. Don’t really know why. But Tesink is a Leafs fan. (Thanks to @mike_morreale for this one)
TSN will have coverage of the combine on Friday at 8:30 pm AST.

RATINGS
Rogers Sportsnet’s PR guy Dave Rashford today tweeted: “thanks to all the CHL fans for making the 2011 Memorial Cup the most watched since the 2005 NHL lockout.”

Some solid ratings considering Owen Sound and Kootenay are classified as “small market teams.”

GERRY DEE
Comedian Gerry Dee from The Score had some fun with several Sea Dogs players, coaches, and even Mayor Ivan Court following their Memorial Cup victory on Sunday.

You can check that out over at The Score’s website.

WATCH THE DRAFT
The QMJHL Entry Draft is sure to gave some drama on Saturday. According to a QMJHL release, fans will finally be able to view a stream of the festivities.

From the QMJHL website:

Fans can follow the choices of their favourite teams live on the league's official website at 10am on Saturday or watch a special broadcast beginning at 9 o'clock on VOX. It will be broadcasting on channels 9 and 609 in HD as well as the VOX website at www.voxtv.ca and on Illico.
ON THE HOT LIST
Sea Dogs forward Tomas Jurco topped The Hockey News’ Hot List after having a very solid Memorial Cup tournament.

“It’s great,” Jurco said about playing with several other highly touted draft eligible players. “It just shows what a great team we have, how strong we are. I hope we all go in the first round.”

Most mock drafts and scouting services have the Slovakian forward going very late in the first round or in the first half of the second round.

Also making the Hot List was defenseman Nathan Beaulieu.

“What made Beaulieu so dangerous in the Memorial Cup final was his willingness to dash up ice with the puck, sometimes carrying it all the way behind Mississauga’s net,” writes Ryan Kennedy of THN. “Those offensive instincts, coupled with his great size (6-foot-3, 191 pounds), will make him popular come draft day.”

ON DUREPOS
The Times & Transcript had an article on defenseman Pierre Durepos today.

"As soon as we got back to Saint John, the terminal at the airport was filled with Sea Dogs fans,” he told the newspaper. “They greeted us as hometown champions.

"Today we had a big parade downtown and the turnout was huge. I wasn't expecting that many people. The whole uptown was packed with people."

Hopefully some NHL teams took notice of his solid play during the Memorial Cup.

NOVA SCOTIA
The Halifax Chronicle Herald had an article on the Sea Dogs Nova Scotia born players. Players from Nova Scotia include Michael Kirkpatrick, Steven Anthony, Stephen MacAulay, Devon Oliver-Dares, and former Halifax resident and Mooseheads netminder Mathieu Corbeil.

CAPE BRETON
Michael Kirkpatrick is just the seventh Cape Bretoner to have his name placed on the Memorial Cup. From the CB Post:

Kirkpatrick is the seventh Cape Bretoner to win the Memorial Cup title. He joins Kenzie Sheppard of Howie Centre, who won with the Quebec Remparts, Aaron Johnson with the Rimouski Oceanic, Donald MacLean with the Hull Olympiques, John Hanna Jr. of Howie Centre with the Ottawa 67s, Al MacInnis of Port Hood with the Kitchener Rangers and Al MacNeil of Sydney, a two-time winner with the Toronto Marlboros.
HUBERDEAU PROFILE
In Lou We Trust had an NHL Entry Draft profile on Jonathan Huberdeau posted yesterday.

THIRD JERSEY
Greg Dobson emailed this third jersey concept to us.

CELEBRATION MOVIE
Produced by Sean Crowley, this is by far the best parade video on the internet to date. The video, set to the tune of ‘The Sea Dogs Are Ready To Play’ features highlights from every part of the parade and rally.
