Development Camp Updates

OFF-DAY AT PANTHERS CAMP

It was an off-day at Florida Panthers camp but it was still quite eventful. The prospects – which include Sea Dogs forward Jonathan Huberdeau – spent the day on the beach and buying groceries.

According to the Panthers website, the “training session came as they hit Deerfield Beach for a round of stretching and drills, conditioning run and then some fun as they split up into groups of five and six to battle it out in beach volleyball and beach football.”

The group then split into groups with half taking some cooking lessons and the other half getting some shopping lessons.

The players return to the ice tomorrow.

Also making news at Panthers camp has been the Twitter chirping between Huberdeau and fellow 2011 draftee Rocco Grimaldi.

Huberdeau also made a tweet today referring to Connor Brickley, a US college player who the Sea Dogs own rights to.

“Give a follow to my boy @ChairJordan23 , got drafted by the sea dogs ! We should try to get him,” he wrote.

GALIEV BLOG
Stanislav Galiev has posted his blog for day three of Washington Capitals Development Camp.

Last night was a pretty good time. We went on a tour in DC, saw the White House and the Pentagon, it was fun. I think it was 98 degrees outside, it was pretty hot. I was happy to come back to the hotel, because it was cold in my room.
You can read his full post and his earlier entries over at the Caps website.

There was a scrimmage at camp today where Galiev’s Red Team defeated Team White, 4-2. From SB Nation:

Both teams played much tighter defensively in the second period. Stanislav Galiev, who earlier in the period missed a wide-open net while on a two-on-one with Mattias Sjogren, redeemed himself by jamming in a puck in the crease to give Red a 2-1 lead after two periods.

"It was a great game," Galiev said. "I'm happy I scored. It was a good pass by [Travis] Boyd and just had to shoot the puck."
Here is Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau speaking with the media about day three of camp:

The Washington Post had an article on Galiev today.

“I’m not nervous like last year, because last year I just get drafted and it was my first camp and I was nervous a lot,” said Galiev. “I didn’t know coaches, guys in the locker room -- I was a little shy last year, but this year, I’m just excited to be here again.

GELINAS SCORES TWICE
It was a big day for Sea Dogs defenseman Eric Gelinas at Day Three New Jersey Devils Development Camp.

During the scrimmage, Gelinas scored twice as his Team White defeated Team Red 5-3.

PHILLIPS AT WILD CAMP
At Day Two of Minnesota Wild Development Camp, Sea Dogs forward Zack Phillips was interviwed by WildTV.

FAMILIAR FACES
Here some familiar faces from Pittsburgh Penguins Development Camp as Alex Grant and Simon Despres pose for a picture.
