Celebrating Good Times

The City of Saint John announced details on how they will commemorate the Saint John Sea Dogs’ MasterCard Memorial Cup victory today.

“We’ve got the billboards at key entry points into the City celebrating the 2011 Memorial Cup win,” said Mayor Ivan Court in a release. “But we’re also highlighting our other national hockey championships -- The Calder Cup, The Allan Cup and The Hardy Cup – by a series of banners outside of Harbour Station and the Lord Beaverbrook Rink.”

According to the release, the banners and billboards will be installed this week.

“The billboards should be in place for our game against Moncton here on Thursday night,” said Sea Dogs president Wayne Long. “We’d like to remind Wildcats fans driving in, that they’re in national championship territory. And when they get to Harbour Station and see the banners celebrating all of the Cups, they’ll be reminded again.”

The Sea Dogs became the first team from Atlantic Canada to ever win the 93-year old trophy in May when they defeated the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors in the tournament final.

According to the Telegraph-Journal, Saint John is the only city in history to ever win the Memorial Cup, Calder Cup, Hardy Cup and Allan Cup.
