POSTSCRIPT: Sea Dogs 0, Tigres 7

A collection of recaps from last night’s 7-0 Saint John Sea Dogs loss to the Victoriaville Tigres…

Our recap. It was blowout city at Colisee Desjardins on Saturday.

La Nouvelle Union’s recap. Saturday’s game was an early season confidence booster for the Tigres.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The last time the Sea Dogs were shutout they went on to win 22 straight games.

TigresVictoriaville.com's recap. Tickets are available for their next match.

The Canadian Press’ recap. Mathieu Theriault made 12 saves on 15 shots for Saint John (5-4-0). Charlie Millen stopped 17 of 21 shots in relief.

NOT PLAYING: Jonathan Huberdeau is still attending Florida Panthers training camp. The Panthers must sign him to an entry level contract by Tuesday if they wish to play him at the National Hockey League level this season.

Defenseman Benjamin Hade was also scratched.

ROAD TRIP OVER: The Sea Dogs’ three-game road trip came to a sour end with the blowout loss on Saturday. The trip started on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and continued on Friday with a 4-2 win in Drummondville over the Voltigeurs.

The Sea Dogs return home for two games this weekend and then hit the road again for another three-game trek through Quebec.

CORBEIL STARTS AGAIN: Mathieu Corbeil made his fifth straight start in goal for Saint John and it certainly wasn’t his best. The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect allowed three goals on just 15 shots in just under 22 minutes of action.

Charlie Millen replaced Corbeil and didn’t fare too well either. He allowed four goals on 21 shots to push his goals against average to 5.38 and save percentage down to 0.831.

Can’t really blame this loss solely on the goaltenders, though. Nothing went right for Saint John on Saturday.

HONZIK: Victoriaville goaltender David Honzik was named first star for his efforts, making 30 stops for his first shutout of the season. Honzik had been average since returning from Vancouver Canucks camp but played well on Saturday.

STREAKING: This loss ended Saint John's five-game winning streak which ties them for the league high this season. The Baie-Comeau Drakkar are currently on a five-game streak.

SCORING FIRST: The Tigres improved to 5-0-0-0 when scoring first this year.

HYNES: Newfoundlander Brandon Hynes had a good game, picking up two goals and an assist. The three points he earned on Saturday were his first of the season.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Saint John's special teams are off to a rough start this year. They are currently the owners of the league's second worst power play and third worst penalty kill.

Last night, the Tigres scored three times on the man advantage. The Dogs went 0-for-4 on the power play.

LETTERS: Kevin Gagne was captain once again. Just like Friday in Drummondville, Stanislav Galiev, Pierre Durepos and Danick Gauthier wore an ‘A’ on their sweaters.

QUEBEC TEAM STRETCH: On this three-game road trip, the Sea Dogs played three Quebec teams. They host two other Quebec based teams this coming weekend and then hit the road again for three games in the province. An eight game stretch against all Quebec teams has to be quite rare.

OUT OF TOWN: P.E.I. 1 at Baie-Comeau 6; Acadie-Bathurst 2 at Chicoutimi 3; Moncton 2 at Rimouski 7; Saint John 0 at Victoriaville 7; and Gatineau 6 at Val-d'Or 4

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs return home to face the Rimouski Oceanic at Harbour Station on Saturday at 7pm. They then host the Victoriaville Tigres on Sunday at 3pm before hitting the road again.
