Turk Inks Three-Year Extension

The Telegraph-Journal is reporting that Gerard Gallant, the two-time Canadian Hockey League coach of the year, has inked a three-year contract extension with the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Gallant, who was signed by the team in 2009, is in the final year of his original contract. It was reported by the newspaper of couple of weeks ago that ‘Turk’ and the club had yet to reach a new deal. Sea Dogs director of hockey operations and associate coach Mike Kelly, who also signed with the team during the off-season of 2009, had already signed a three-year extension.

"It's a proud day for our organization,'' team president Wayne Long said. "We feel we've secured the best junior hockey coaching tandem in the country.''

As usual, financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Under Gallant and Kelly the Sea Dogs are an incredible 116-23-2-4 in the regular season, won two Jean Rougeau Trophies, have made the league final twice and have won a President’s Cup and Memorial Cup.

Gallant has been named the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and CHL coach of the year two years in a row while Kelly is the reigning QMJHL general manager of the year.
