POSTSCRIPT: Sea Dogs 3, Oceanic 4

A collection of recaps from last night’s Saint John Sea Dogs 4-3 loss in Rimouski…

Our Recap. The game winner, scored by Fredericton native Peter Trainor, featured some controversy.

L’Avantage’s recap. Saint John’s seven-game winning streak came to an end.

The Canadian Press’ recap. A victory would have boosted the Sea Dogs past idle Victoriaville for first place in the league.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. Jonathan Huberdeau scored a pair of goals, and Danick Gauthier extended his team-leading goals total to 18.

SN Live Blog replay. Saint John has opened September, October and now November with losses.

NOT PLAYING: Saint John dressed the same lineup as they did on the weekend. Defenseman Tyrone Sock and forwards Stanislav Galiev and Devon Oliver-Dares were all out of the lineup.

NEW PLAYER: According to News 88.9, 17-year old defenseman/forward (not sure which position) Denis Creighton is currently on a tryout with the Sea Dogs. The Port Colborne, Ont. native has no points and 33 penalty minutes in five games with the Thorold Blackhawks of the Ontario junior ranks, according to EliteProspects.com.

His father is former NHLer Adam Creighton.

SAAB: Don’t know what to say about Ian Saab. He’s taking some pointless penalties out there. He had three minor penalties last night and even took two on the same play. Rimouski scored twice with him in the box. Not cool.

ROAD WOES: The Sea Dogs have been solid at Harbour Station this year but average on the road. With last night’s loss, the Dogs fell to 5-5-0-0 on the road and have been outscored 40-35.

They have a big test ahead of them as they visit the Drakkar on Friday and Saturday. Baie-Comeau has not lost any of their nine home games this year.

HURT: Stephen MacAulay blocked a shot late in the first period on a penalty kill and was in considerable pain. He came out for a brief shift in the second period but quickly headed back to the dressing room. He did not return.

STREAK: Saint John’s winning streak was halted at seven games with the loss. The Sea Dogs hadn’t lost since October 12th when they fell 5-1 in Gatineau.

CAPTAIN’S LOSS: This was Jonathan Huberdeau’s first loss as Sea Dogs captain. It was his eighth game wearing the ‘C.’

JURCO STREAK: Tomas Jurco pushed his point streak to 11 games with two assists in the contest. Over the 11 games, the Slovakian forward has recorded six goals and 11 assists for 17 points.

PHILLIPS STREAK: Zack Phillips extended his point streak to eight games with two assists. The Fredericton native has seven goals and 10 assists over that span. He has recorded at least one assist in all eight games.

GAUTHIER: After failing to record a goal on Saturday against Chicoutimi, Danick Gauthier got back to his scoring ways on Wednesday. He recorded his 18th goal of the season in just his 18th game. He has eight goals over his past six games. He is tied with Bathurst’s Zach O’Brien for the league goal scoring lead.

CELEBRATION: The Ocenaic had some unreal celebration after the final horn blew. It looked like they had won a playoff series. It was similar to the celebration Victoriaville had after they beat the Sea Dogs in the regular season last year.

Because of Rimouski’s celebration, we’re predicting a Saint John – Rimouski playoff series. Sea Dogs in five.

FIRST GOAL: Last night’s game marked the first time this season that the Sea Dogs had scored first but failed to win. They are now 12-1-0-0 when scoring the opening goal.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs are in Baie-Comeau tomorrow night at 8:30pm to face the Drakkar. It is the first of back-to-back games in BC.
