Super Series Gameday

GAMEDAY
2011 Subway Super Series - Game One - Team Russia vs Team QMJHL
Tonight, November 7, 2011 at 8pm
Colisee Desjardins

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. – The bad news is that Jonathan Huberdeau will not playing in the 2011 Subway Super Series. The good news is that three other members of Saint John Sea Dogs will be.

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today that the Sea Dogs captain will miss the series with a foot injury. The extent of the injury is unknown, but there is speculation that his foot is fractured and could miss a month.

The Sea Dogs will still be well represented in this year’s event, though. Forward Zack Phillips and defensemen Pierre Durepos and Nathan Beaulieu will all suit up as Team QMJHL hosts Team Russia for games one and two of the coast-to-coast series. Game time this evening is 8pm AST at Colisee Desjardins in Victoriaville. The game will be aired live on Sportsnet.

The QMJHL will be looking for a better showing this year after dropping both games to the Russians last season. Russia took Game One 5-4 at Harbour Station and then defeated the Q again in Drummondville by score of 4-3.

Russia would also beat the Western Hockey League twice to take the series 4-2.

All-time in this event, the QMJHL is 9-5-2. They own the worst record of the three CHL leagues.

Here are the original forward lines and defense pairings for tonight’s game, as tweeted by Stephane Leroux of RDS prior to the announcement of Huberdeau getting injured. Victoriaville’s Brandon Hynes will replace Huberdeau tonight.

Jonathan Huberdeau - Zack Phillips - Zach O'Brien
Matthew Bissonnette – Jean-Gabriel Pageau – Carl Gelinas
Philippe Halley – Phillip Danault -Yannick Dube
Charles Hudon – Nathan MacKinnon – Marc-Olivier Brouillard
Brandon Gormley – Morgan Ellis
Martin Lefebvre – Jerome Gauthier-Leduc
Nathan Beaulieu – Samuel Carrier
Xavier Ouellet – Pierre Durepos
Maxime Lagace will start in goal.

The Russian roster can be found here. Val-d’Or’s Artem Sergeev and Shawinigan’s Anton Zlobin are both expected to play for Team Russia tonight.

Game Two of the series is Wednesday night in Quebec City. Every game can be seen on Sportsnet.
