GAMEDAY 38: at Cape Breton

GAMEDAY
Saint John Sea Dogs vs Cape Breton Screaming Eagles
Tonight, December 16, 2011 at 7pm
Centre 200

PREVIEW
SYDNEY, NS – Oh yeah, there’s a hockey game tonight.

While fans continue to Google Charlie Coyle, the Saint John Sea Dogs are in Cape Breton tonight to face the Screaming Eagles at 7pm at Centre 200. It is the final weekend of the first half and, more importantly, especially for several Screaming Eagles, the last weekend before the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s trading period begins.

The Eagles are a rebuilding hockey club, and the likes of Morgan Ellis, Jonathan Brunelle, David Rose and Logan Shaw could fetch a nice return and really help out the rebuild process. Cape Breton has also called up a few players for this weekend's games

The Eagles enter play tonight in fifth place in the Maritimes Division with a record of 14-20-0-1 for 29 points. They sit 15th in the overall standings and are 3-7-0-0 in their last 10 games.

Cape Breton is 9-7-0-0 on home ice and have outscored opponents 64-62.

Saint John sits first in the Maritimes Division and second overall in the QMJHL with a 26-10-0-1 record. They are two points back of the top-ranked Quebec Remparts who have played two fewer games. The Dogs are just 5-4-0-1 in their last 10 games.

On the road this year, Saint John is 10-7-0-1 and have outscored opponents 64-60.

This is the fifth meeting of the season between these two teams. Saint John is 3-1-0-0 against the Eagles this year with their only loss coming way back in September when they were forced to ice a depleted lineup due to NHL rookie and training camps.

Although Saint John’s lineup will be a lot deeper tonight compared to when it was back then, the Dogs will be missing several key players due to world junior camps and injuries.

The Sea Dogs complete the first half of their season in Sunday afternoon when they visit the Moncton Wildcats.

NOTE: We’re revamping the Gameday posts for the second half… so we’re just mailing it in this weekend.
