POSTSCRIPT: Sea Dogs 3, Titan 4

A collection of recaps from last night’s 4-3 Saint John Sea Dogs loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan…

Our recap. The Titan picked up their fourth win of the season over the Sea Dogs, winning 4-3. Bathurst had a 4-1 lead in the opening minutes of the third and hung for the win.

The Telegraph-Journal’s recap. Danick Gauthier, Aidan Kelly and Stephen MacAulay did the scoring for Saint John, which was missing several high-end players, including Jonathan Huberdeau, Nathan Beaulieu, Tomas Jurco and Charlie Coyle, who are all playing at the World Junior Hockey Championship.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. Zach O’Brien had two goals to seize the QMJHL lead with 33 on the season, Sebastien Trudeau had a goal and two assists and Mirko Hoefflin chipped in a single. Matthew Bissonnette had two assists and Robert Steeves made 30 saves for the win.

The Titan website’s recap. It was back to work tonight for the Titan players as they were hosting the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The Canadian Press’ recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs are the top team in the Maritimes Division, but it doesn't seem that way when they play their division rival, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

MISSING IN ACTION: The Sea Dogs were without forwards Jonathan Huberdeau, Tomas Jurco, and Charlie Coyle and defenseman Nathan Beaulieu due to their participation in the World Junior Hockey Championships. Forward Oliver Cooper is also away at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Forwards Ryan Tesink (knee), Stanislav Galiev (wrist), and Devon Oliver-Dares (head) were also out due to injuries.

CALLED UP: With so many players missing, the Sea Dogs called up several affiliate players. Defenseman Ryan Kelly and forwards Danny Chiasson, Kraig Pasher, Dylan McGuigan and Stephen Anderson all got the call up.

For Chiasson, he made his Sea Dogs debut after being acquired in a trade a few days ago. He had an assist on Stephen MacAulay’s third period goal. He finished the game with one shot, two hits, and went 2/2 on faceoffs.

Kelly and Pasher both played in their third game for the Sea Dogs this season. McGuigan was playing in his sixth game while Anderson played in his 21^st. None of these four had points on Wednesday night.

O CANADA: Due to sound problems at the KC Irving Regional Centre, O Canada had to be sung by the fans attending the game.

GOOD CROWD: Pretty good crowd at last night’s game by Bathurst standards. 2,011 fans were on hand which is the third largest crowd of the season at the KC Irving Regional Centre. It was only the third time this year that the Titan had over 2,000 fans at a game. Two of those games have been against Saint John.

STRUGGLES: The Sea Dogs fell to 1-3-0-1 against the Titan this season with the loss. Four of Saint John’s 12 losses this year have to been against Bathurst.

Saint John had their struggles against Bathurst last year as well, going 6-2-0-0. Two of the Sea Dogs’ seven regulation losses were against the Titan.

The Sea Dogs haven’t been terrible on the road this year - but they haven't been that great, either. Yesterday’s loss dropped them to 12-8-0-1 away from Harbour Station. They have outscored their opponents 76-69.

CORBEIL: Mathieu Corbeil had a rough start to the second half, allowing four goals on just 19 shots. After allowing the fourth goal 24 seconds into the third period, he was replaced by Sebastien Auger. Although Auger only had to make five saves in relief, he made a few great stops to  give the Sea Dogs a chance to win.

With the trade deadline just over a week over away, it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the goaltending.

O’BRIEN: Zach O’Brien is a pretty good hockey player. He scored his 32^nd and 33^rd goal of the season in the Titan’s win last night. The two markers pushed him into sole possession of the league’s goal scoring race, one ahead of Danick Gauthier.

POWER PLAY: Bathurst entered the game with the league’s best power play but went 0-for-3 on the night. Saint John did a solid job on the penalty kill, which is currently ranked ninth in the league.

QUICK HITS: Charles-Olivier Roussel and Kevin Gagne both had two assists… Gagne and Aidan Kelly were both a +2… Ian Saab and Jason Seed were both a -2… Danick Gauthier had six shots. Scott Oke and Aidan Kelly both had five shots… Dylan McGuigan had four hits. 

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs host the PEI Rocket tomorrow night at Harbour Station.
