'Twas The Night Before Christmas...

(Ed. Note: We get a lot of awesome emails from Sea Dogs fans. One awesome email came from Matt Garnett. He was kind enough to allow us to post this. Enjoy.)

By Matt Garnett

T’was the night before Christmas when all through the rink,
No one was stirring or raising a stink,
The black and pink socks were hung with care,
In hopes that Scott McCain soon would be there.

Tesink and Galiev in their hospital beds,
While visions of returns danced in their heads,
Gallant with a ‘stache and Kelly with a beard,
It left no doubt to why the coaches were feared.

When out on the ice there arose such a clatter,
DK sprang from the room to see what was the matter,
From the depths of the rink he flew from the bowels,
Someone interrupted him from washing the towels.

The lights of the arena on new and fresh ice,
A full team practise sure would be nice,
He looked all around and then he did see,
A figure standing by where they show the 50/50.

With his chest puffed out to make him look strong,
He knew in a moment it must be Wayne Long,
More rapid than slap shots his coursers they came,
Teams to defeat he called them by name.

Down Titan, Down Hali, Down Rocket and Chicou!
Down Volts, Down Remps, Down Cats and Rimou!
To the top of the division! To the top of the league!
Beat them so bad it leaves no intrigue.

Jurco skates so fast you think he can fly,
Saab leaves opponents looking at the sky,
To the top corner Roussel’s slapper it flew,
Assisted by MacAulay and Seed too.

The goal celebration was joyful and hearty,
But the commissioner and Co. ruined the party,
With a big bag of cash they turned things around,
The Memorial Cup would be Shawinigan bound!

Dressed in a suit from his head to his shoes,
Turk and Kelly set out to make Shawinigan lose,
A first round pick they put on their roster,
Believing more goals Coyle would foster.

Corbeil in the nets always so merry,
But to shooters he is 6’6” and a little scary,
Auger is only 5’10” a little bit small,
But so far in net proven he can stand tall.

Huberdeau and Beaulieu off to win gold,
This is Gauthier’s last year as he is old,
Cameron is over the problems with his belly,
We could never forget the home boy, Aiden Kelly.

Phillips and Cooper are two of Fredericton’s best,
We cannot forget the banger Grant West,
On the backend Durepos and McDonald have it made,
Unless we pick up Ellis or Gormley in a trade.

They then hit the ice with the words that Turk spoke,
Check hard, Gagne, Dares, Creighton and Oke,
The team watched the standings and up the wins rose,
They wanted the Commish to have pie on his face and his nose.

The league took away our chance to host,
But it will be the Sea Dogs who last get to boast!
It is the holiday season and this poem might be trite,
So Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good night.
