Dogs Make A Pair Of Trades

SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs were active on the trade front today, swapping some picks and acquiring a forward.

Their first transaction of the day saw the Sea Dogs trade their 2012 first-round pick for the QMJHL Entry Draft to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in exchange for a first-round pick in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft (Rimouski’s), and a second (Saint John’s) and a fourth (Quebec’s) round pick in this year’s QMJHL Entry Draft.

Saint John originally traded their 2012 second-round pick to the Huskies at last year’s draft in order to move up in the selection process, allowing them to select Oliver Cooper.

The Sea Dogs didn’t hang on to that second-round pick they reacquired for very long, sending it and a 2013 sixth-round pick to the Drummondville Voltigeurs in exchange for 19-year old forward Maxime Villemaire. The deal was reported this morning by L’Express.

Villemaire has eight goals and nine assists in 33 games with the Volts this season. He has 101 penalty minutes, good for fifth in the league. Last season, the  six-foot-two, 219-pound forward had six goals and four assists in 57 games to go with 125 penalty minutes.

Saint John has now made five transactions since the trade period opened. The trading period closes at 1pm AST on Saturday.
