POSTSCRIPT: Olympiques 2, Sea Dogs 3

A collection of recaps from last night’s 3-2 Saint John Sea Dogs win over the Gatineau Olympiques…

Our recap. Zack Phillips’ three-point night propelled the Saint John Sea Dogs to victory on Wednesday night at Harbour Station.

The Telegraph-Journal’s recap. "I like to play physical and I like to (bring) energy,'' said Villemaire, acquired in a trade Tuesday from Drummondville. "I just wanted to make simple plays.''

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. Danick Gauthier moved back into a tie for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League lead in goals as his game-winner lifted the Saint John Sea Dogs to a 3-2 victory over the Gatineau Olympiques Wednesday.

SN Live Blog replay. Some technical difficulties last night.

MISSING IN ACTION: The Sea Dogs were once again without forwards Jonathan Huberdeau, Tomas Jurco, and Charlie Coyle and defenseman Nathan Beaulieu due to their participation in the World Junior Hockey Championships. Forward Oliver Cooper is also away at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Forwards Ryan Tesink (knee), Stanislav Galiev (wrist), and Devon Oliver-Dares (head) were also out due to injuries.

CALLED UP: Last night’s game featured affiliates Colin Campbell, Brock Morrison, Kraig Pasher, and Stephen Anderson.

Campbell had two shots and was a -1, Morrison had two shots, Pasher had no shots or points, and Anderson had two shots and was a -1.

According to Even Strength, Pasher and Campbell have been reassigned to the MHL’s Yarmouth Mariners.

VILLEMAIRE: Maxime Villemaire made quite a first impression, scoring on his first shift as a member of the Sea Dogs. The 19-year old forward was acquired from the Drummondville Voltigeurs earlier in the week.

Villemaire finished the game with a goal, four shots, a +1 rating and three hits. He wore Alexandre Beauregard’s old No. 25 in his debut.

VS GATINEAU: The Sea Dogs improved to 1-1-0-0 against Gatineau this season with the win. They lost in Gatimeau earlier this season.

This was the first time the Olympiques made a visit to Harbour Station since Game Five of the 2011 President’s Cup Final. An interesting note from the Sea Dogs website’s recap.

Gauthier’s 33rd created what has become a familiar scoreline between the two sides, as three of the six games in last year’s President’s Cup final were 3-2 contests, including Saint John’s Cup-clinching Game 6 win in Gatineau.

SCORING FIRST: Saint John improved to 24-1-0-0 when scoring first this season.

TESINK: According to News 88.9, Ryan Tesink skated on Wednesday with a no-contact jersey. Tesink has not played since November 26 due to a knee injury.

FIGHTS: A couple of fights in this one. Adam Chapman and Ian Saab squared off in the first period followed by Grant West and Jacob Conrad dropping the gloves in the second period.

PAGEAU: Jean-Gabriel Pageau, who was on the ice for what felt like half the game, had two goals in the game. He also had 10 shots on goal, nearly a third of Gatineau’s 28 shots overall.

GAUTHIER: Danick Gauthier scored his 33rd goal of the season in the second period, tying him for the league lead in goals with Bathurst’s Zach O’Brien.

Also, Gauthier now leads the league in game-winning goals with seven.

NOTES: Aidan Kelly, Maxime Villemaire, and Charles-Olivier Roussel all had four shots on goal… Villemaire and Jason Cameron all had three hits… solid Wednesday crowd of 4,327 on hand for this one.

HIGHLIGHTS: Here are the SeaDogsTV highlights of the game.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs play just one other game this week. They travel to Halifax to face the Mooseheads on Saturday at 7pm.
