POSTSCRIPT: Titan 2, Sea Dogs 5


A collection of recaps from Saturday’s 5-2 Saint John Sea Dogs win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan…

Our recap. A three-goal second period propelled the Sea Dogs past the Acadie-Bathurst Titan by score of 5-2 on Saturday night at Harbour Station.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs continued their winning streak Saturday, topping the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for their 17th straight victory.

The Canadian Press’ recap. Nathan Beaulieu, Tomas Jurco, Danick Gauthier and Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and an assist each as the Sea Dogs extended the longest streak in the Canadian Hockey League this season.


MISSING IN ACTION: The Sea Dogs were without forwards Devin Oliver-Dares (collarbone) and Jason Cameron (healthy) along with defenseman Ian Saab (healthy).

PRE-GAME: There was a ceremony before the game honouring Saint John’s three 20-year old players who were playing in their final regular season game at Harbour Station. Team president Wayne Long presented goaltender Mathieu Corbeil, forward Danick Gauthier, and defenseman Charles Roussel with jerseys before the match.

STREAK: The Sea Dogs extended their winning streak to 17 games with the victory on Saturday night. The streak, which is the longest in the CHL this season, has been going since January 12.

LAST GAME: This was Saint John’s final home game of the 2011-12 regular season. The Sea Dogs will finish the season with a record of 28-5-0-1 at Harbour Station, outscoring opponents 164-80. They end the year on an 11-game winning streak on home ice.

The Sea Dogs will finish the season with the most home wins in the league with 28. They are the only team in the league without a home game remaining.

Harbour Station will be occupied with the very exciting RV show next weekend and the home show the weekend following. Their playoff run begins on Friday, March 23 at the Station.

VS BATHURST: It was quite a battle between the Sea Dogs and Titan this regular season. In the end, Saint John finishes with a 4-3-0-1 record against the Titan while Bathurst finishes with a 4-4-0-0 record against Saint John.

The Dogs had their troubles against the Titan last year as well, going 6-2-0-0.

HUBERDEAU: Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal yesterday, giving him eight in his past four games. He now has an impressive 28 in 32 games this year.

GAUTHIER: Danick Gauthier netted his team leading 42nd goal of the season on Saturday, scoring early in the third period. He is now just four goals away from reaching Mike Hoffman’s single season Sea Dogs goal scoring record of 46.

STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs are now five points ahead of the Shawinigan Cataractes in the race for first place. Both teams have five games left on their schedule including a head-to-head matchup next Sunday at the Bionest Centre.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs travel to Chicoutimi to take on the Sagueneens this Friday.
