Our recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs traveled to the
Moncton Coliseum on Sunday afternoon to do battle with the Moncton Wildcats in
front of 4,738 ‘Cats and Dogs fans.
The Telegraph-Journal’s recap (paywall). Saint John,
4-1-0-0, is on a four-game winning streak that has moved it into first place in
the Maritime Division.

2-3-0-0, is in fifth place and has shown great consistency in alternating
between good and bad games.

and an assist and Devon Oliver-Dares added two assists while Jason Cameron,
Jonathan Huberdeau, Stephen Anderson and Ryan Tesink added singles.
Moncton-Wildcats.com’s recap. All the scoring was in the
3rd period, which opened with Ryan Penny scoring, his third of the year, just
18 seconds into the period. But it was
all Saint John after that, scoring 5 unanswered, including an empty netter with
14 seconds remaining.
MISSING IN ACTION: Forwards Mackenzie Brown (knee),
Spencer Smallman (shoulder), Matthew Highmore (shoulder), and Stephen MacAulay
(AHL Camp) along with defensemen Pierre Durepos (hip), David Weckworth (knees),
and Kevin Gagne (AHL Camp) did not play for Saint John.
RECALLED: The Sea Dogs called up defenseman David Mosher
from Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League prior to the game,
giving Saint John six defensemen. He finished the game with one shot and a +1
rating.
“Had fun tonight, was good to get the road win,” Mosher
tweeted after the game. “#greatexperiance”
SUSPENDED: According to the Wildcats Twitter, Yannick Veilleux was suspended for yesterday’s game for removing an opponent’s helmet during a fight
on Friday against Cape Breton. Veilleux has an assist and 17 penalty minutes in
four games this season.
FOG: There was a bit of fog at the Moncton Coliseum
yesterday thanks to some mild temperatures.

Build a new rink already, Moncton.
STREAK: The Se Dogs have now won four straight games.
Their only loss was in their season opener against Bathurst. The Quebec
Remparts and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies have also won four-in-a-row.
PENALTIES: Ryan Tesink managed to collect 10 minutes in
penalties in the first period. He was called for roughing, unsportmanlike
conduct, and participating in the game after losing his helmet or visor at 3:47
and then interference of a player or a goaltender and slashing at 19:32. Things
were a little chippy in the period.
HUBERDEAU-DOWNE: Patrick Downe was suspended for one-game
earlier this week following his illegal hit to the head on Jonathan Huberdeau
during last Wednesday’s game at Harbour Station. On Sunday, the two had just
one minor confrontation in the first period with both players picking up
unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
SCORING: There was no scoring through the first 40
minutes and then things blew open in the third. The Sea Dogs had a 2-1 lead
before the three-minute mark of the frame. The Dogs would add three more in the
period.
HUBERDEAU: Jonathan Huberdeau scored his fifth goal of
the season, a goal that proved to be the game winner. He also registered three
shots. Things got a little scary in the third when Huberdeau was called high
sticking and received a 10-minute unsportsmanlike misconduct at 6:44. But the
Sea Dogs survived without their best player on the ice, adding a couple of insurance
markers just a few minutes after he headed off.
TSOGKAS: Andreas Tsogkas recorded his first QMJHL point,
assisting on Stephen Anderson’s goal. Tsogkas also had four shots and a +1
rating.
AUGER: Sebastien Auger continued to be in beast mode on
Sunday. He made 42 saves for his fourth win of the season and has played a key
role in Saint John’s early success this year. He currently has an impressive
1.78 goals against average and a 0.944 save percentage.
RIVALRY CUP: Saint John picked up three points for a
regulation win while Moncton got one for their attendance. The Sea Dogs now
lead the Rivalry Cup standings 6-1.
WEBCAST: The good old Telus Webcast didn’t work for this
game for some unknown reason, leaving plenty disappointed. Instead, everyone
got to look at this screen all afternoon.
NOTES: This was the first afternoon game of the season
for Saint John… the Dogs are now 2-0-0-0 on the road… Saint John’s
penalty kill is a perfect 13/13 on the road… Aidan Kelly left the game in the
third period after blocking a shot. It happened just before Jonathan Huberdeau
scored at 2:49… Devon Oliver-Dares recorded two assists… Andreas Tsogkas and
Stephen Anderson each recorded four shots… Oliver Cooper had three hits…
James Melindy was a -4… Ivan Barbashev had seven shots… Dmitri Jaskin served
six minutes in penalties… Barbashev had five hits… Ryan Tesink had some terrific tweets after the game.
