SHERBROOKE, Que. – A three-in-three Quebec road trip
begins tonight for the Saint John Sea Dogs.
The Sea Dogs open up their weekend trip tonight with their first
ever matchup with the expansion Sherbrooke Phoenix. Game time this evening at
the Palais des Sports is 8pm.
Playing the expansion Phoenix, who sit last overall in
the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League standings, might be just what the Sea Dogs
need to kick off this road trip on a positive note. Saint John has been
struggling with consistency of late and are coming off a disappointing home
loss to the lowly Shawinigan Cataractes last Sunday.
The Sea Dogs are 5-5-0-0 in their last 10 games. Overall,
they have a 9-9-0-0 record and sit fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 13th
overall in the QMJHL.
Saint John continues to be led by Captain Jonathan
Huberdeau who has 11 goals and 12 assists in 18 games this season.
The Phoenix got off to a terrible start but have been
slowly improving as the season moves along. Sherbrooke didn’t record their
first win until October 10. They are 2-7-1-0 over the past 10 games but still sit last in the league with a 3-14-1-1 record.
Being an expansion team, the Phoenix have plenty of familiar
names on their roster thanks to the expansion draft and other trades. They
include Jacob Gervais-Chouinard, Brent Turnbull, Michael McNamee, and Alexandre
Comtois to name a few. Their lineup also features Daniel Audette who was the
first overall pick in the QMJHL Entry Draft. He has two goals and three assists
in 15 games.
McNamee and Cole Hawes each lead the Phoenix in points
with 18. McNamee leads the team in goals with eight while Hawes leads the club
in assists with 12.
Following tonight’s game, Saint John’s schedule takes
them to Drummondville for an 8pm contest tomorrow night. Their trip ends on
Sunday in Blainville-Boisbriand.

LAST GAMES
The Sea Dogs are coming off a disappointing 3-2 loss to
Shawinigan Cataractes on Sunday afternoon at Harbour Station. Jonathan
Huberdeau and Ryan Tesink scored Saint John’s only goals. Alex Fournier was
pulled after allowing two goals on seven shots in the first period. Sebastien
Auger made 19 saves in relief.
The Phoenix are coming off a 5-4 loss to the Olympiques
last Friday in Gatineau. Michael McNamee, Brandon Lesway, Jeremy Beaudry, and Jean-Christophe
Laflamme all had goals in the loss. Jacob Gervais-Chouinard was pulled after
allowing three goals on four shots. Jack Flinn made 23 saves in relief.

The Sea Dogs and Phoenix meet for the first time tonight.

EXPANSION DRAFT
Sherbrooke selected Marc Biega and Ryan Segella in the
expansion draft from Saint John. According to Elite Prospects, Biega is playing in the BCHL this season while Segalla has a commitment to the University of Connecticut.
