The Sea Dogs travelled to Drummondville on Saturday
evening to face off against the Voltigeurs. This was the second game of a three
away game weekend for the Dogs.
Alex Fournier took the start in net for Saint John while
Domenic Graham went in to protect Drummondville’s net.
FIRST PERIOD
Olivier Couette from the Voltigeurs took the first
penalty of the game at 8:10 for interference.
David Weckworth and Jeremie Malouin get into a scuffle as
Malouin got called for tripping and then both got called for roughing at 8:42.
At 11:04, Jason Cameron was called for slashing, sending
the Dogs to the penalty kill.
Francis Lambert-Lemay headed to the box for interference
at 13:27.
It was a very strong period for rookie goalie Alex
Fournier, blocking all 17 shots made against him.
The Volts outshot Saint John 17-8 yet both teams remained
scoreless during the first period.
SECOND PERIOD
Steven Duda started the period off with an interference
penalty at 0:56. The Volts took advantage of the penalty and Olivier
Archambault scored the first goal of the game at 1:10.
Jonathan Huberdeau tied the score with his unbelievable
goal at 3:01. Kevin Gagne grabed the assist on that one.
Things started getting chippy as Matthew Boudens headed
to the box for roughing at 3:24.
Ryan Tesink gained the lead for the Sea Dogs with his goal
at 4:39. LeBlanc and MacAulay each walked away with assists on that one.
Michael Mastrangelo pulled a penalty at 6:58 for cross
checking. Matthew Boudens was sent to the box once again, again for roughing.
Ryan Tesink was close behind as he was called for cross checking, both of these
were at 6:58 as well.
Olivier Archambault headed to the box for slashing at
9:45.
Alexandre Grenier sent the Dogs to the power play at
13:28 as he was called for tripping.
Olivier Caouette tied the game 2-2 as he fired one past
Fournier at 13:51.
Noah Zilbert and Michael Mastrangelo would take the last
penalties of the period - Mastrangelo for unsportsmanlike conduct and Zilbert
for hooking at 17:49.
Shots were 11-4 Drummondville in the second.
THIRD PERIOD
Guillaume Gauthier scored the first of the period at 4:52.
Stephen MacAulay took the first penalty of the period at
11:27 for hooking.
Jason Cameron received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty
at 12:42 along with a misconduct.
The Volts scored again at 13:29 as Guillaume Gauthier
netted his second goal, making it a 4-2 game. Sea Dogs head coach Mike Kelly
exploded on the bench, having very choice words for the refs. The frustration
of the Saint John team was obvious as the calls had been pretty one sided this
period. In return, Tsogkas headed to the box to serve a two minute bench
penalty.
The Volts scored their third goal in the third period and
fifth of the game at 13:44. Marc-Olivier Brouillard received credit for that
marker.
Ryan Tesink was handed an unsportsmanlike conduct as well
as a misconduct at 13:48. Soon after, Stephen MacAulay received his own
unsportsmanlike conduct penalty as well as a misconduct at 14:25.
Marc-Olivier Brouillard scored his second goal of the
period at 17:17. This brought the score 6-2 for Drummondville.
Things took an even more turn for the worse as Michael
Mastrangelo and Matthew Boudens got into a heated battle. When all was said and
done, Matthew Boudens received a fighting in the final five minutes of
regulation penalty and a game misconduct. Mastrangelo received a cross checking
penalty, an instigator penalty, a penalty for fighting in the final five
minutes of regulation as well as a game misconduct. All of these were handed
out at 17:32.
Jeremie Malouin took the final penalty of the game at
19:26 for slashing.
The game would end with the 6-2 score.
It should be noted however that Alex Fournier played very
well tonight. Shots on goal for the game were 44-17 for Drummondville.
