POSTSCRIPT: Oceanic 4, Sea Dogs 1

A collection of recaps from yesterday’s 4-1 Saint John Sea Dogs loss to the Rimouski Oceanic…

Our recap. Saint John returned home to play the Rimouski Oceanic at Harbour Station on Sunday afternoon.

The Telegraph-Journal’s recap (paywall). The Saint John Sea Dogs had some hiccups in the defensive zone and it led to a 4-1 setback to the Rimouski Oceanic on Sunday at Harbour Station.

L’Avantage’s recap. It was a President Cup final rematch on Sunday.

The Canadian Press’ recap. At Saint John, N.B., Francis Beauvillier scored in his seventh straight game and Peter Trainor chipped in with two assists as Rimouski (17-9-4) defeated the Sea Dogs (14-14-0) for its third win in as many games.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs fell to the Rimouski Oceanic 4-1 in front of 3,472 fans at Harbour Station in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Sunday afternoon.

SCRATCHES: Benjamin Hade (upper body), Jason Seed (healthy), Devon Oliver-Dares (personal reasons), Aidan Kelly (upper body), Mackenzie Brown (knee), Michael Mastrangelo (upper body/suspension), and Jurij Repe (upper body) are not playing for Saint John. Injuries according to News 88.9.

FIRST PERIOD: Rimouski held a 2-0 lead after one period of hockey and out shot Saint John 11-6 in the frame. The Dogs had a few good scoring chances in the final minutes of the period but could not connect.

JOLY: Michael Joly scored his first QMJHL goal in the first period, converting on a massive Saint John turnover and then beating Sebastien Auger. Joly has a goal and 10 assists in 26 games with the Oceanic this season.

BEAUVILLIER: Francis Beauvillier scored in the second period to extend his goal streak to seven games. He also added an assist on Sunday. The former Lewiston Maineiac now has 14 goals and 13 assists in 30 games.

COOPER: Oliver Cooper dropped the gloves with Lucas Grundy in the second period for a fight that was interrupted by the officials. The fighting major gives Cooper a penalty minutes in seven straight games. He has 31 penalty minutes in 28 games.

TRAINOR: Fredericton’s Peter Trainor recorded two assists in the game to keep his hold on the Oceanic scoring lead. He now has 41 points in 30 games.

EX-DOGS: It was a fairly uneventful game for former Sea Dogs forward Scott Oke and former Sea Dogs draft pick Maxime Garvel. Oke was a +1 with no shots on goal while Garvel was a +1 with one shot.

HUBERDEAU: Jonathan Huberdeau scored Saint John’s only goal to give him 15 on the season. He is now just five goals behind Michael Kirkpatrick’s franchise record of 108 as a Sea Dog. The Saint John captain had nine shots on goal yesterday.

LEBLANC: Sea Dogs defenseman Olivier LeBlanc left the game in the second period and did not return. LeBlanc has been solid this season and will be leaving for the Would Under-17 Challenge in a few weeks, so hopefully it is nothing serious. He has three goals and eight assists in 27 games this season, placing him sixth in team scoring.

HIGHMORE: Sea Dogs forward Matthew Highmore look good again yesterday. He had three shots in goal and went 12-for-15 in the faceoff circle. He also recorded his first QMJHL penalty in the first period.

STANDINGS: Saint John fell back to .500 with the loss and now has a record of 14-14-0-0. They sit fourth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 12th overall in the QMJHL.

NOTES: Bunch of Oceanic fans at the game… Saint John Energy gave out rally towels (pictured)… the Sea Dogs wore their snazzy third jerseys… Samuel Morin had three hits… Anthony DeLuca and Francis Beauvillier each had four shots for Rimouski… the Sea Dogs are 0-12-0-0 when trailing after two… sixth straight home game that had a crowd under 4,000.
