POSTSCRIPT: Sea Dogs 3, Rocket 6

A collection of recaps from yesterday’s 6-3 Saint John Sea Dogs loss to the PEI Rocket…

Our recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs headed to Prince Edward Island to face off against the PEI Rocket on Sunday afternoon.

PEIRocket.com’s recap. It was a special night for P.E.I. Rocket forward Ben Duffy in a 6-3 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs Sunday afternoon.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without Benjamin Hade (upper body), Jason Seed (MHL Summerside), Jonathan Huberdeau (Team Canada/suspension), Michael Mastrangelo (upper body), Andreas Tsogkas (healthy,) Jurij Repe (Slovenian junior team), and Marcus Cuomo (healthy) on Sunday afternoon.

BROWN: Sea Dogs forward Mackenzie Brown returned to the lineup on Sunday afternoon. It was just his second game of the season. Brown hadn’t played since opening night against Bathurst – way back on September 30 – where he injured his knee. He had two shots on Sunday.

FIGHTS: There were three fights in the first period. That doesn’t happen every day. The best one was the first one where Justin Dickinson and Patrick McGrath squared off.

That was Dickinson’s first QMJHL fight. The Sea Dogs rookie forward would leave the game with an injury, however, and did not return.

The other fights saw Ryan Tesink take on Josh Currie and Oliver Cooper face Jimmy Oligny.

IZACKY: Jakub Izacky left the game in the first period after blocking a shot. He did not return. The import forward has been playing on the Sea Dogs top line with Ryan Tesink and Stephen MacAulay and was on one of the heroes in Friday’s comeback win in Moncton. Izacky has nine goals and four assists in 29 games this year.

DUFFY: Ben Duffy made some history on Sunday. From the Rocket website:

The 20-year-old Sackville, N.S. native became the all-time leader in goals scored, with 123, as a member of the P.E.I. Rocket, scoring two goals. Duffy passed David Laliberté (121 goals), who previously held the record.

Duffy also had an assist in the win. He is now second in league scoring with 58 points in 34 games.

CURRIE: Big game for Josh Currie. The Rocket captain was in on all six PEI goals, registering two goals and four assists. He was also a +5. Currie leads the league in scoring with 61 points in 34 games this season.

FOURNIER: Alex Fournier made 36 saves for Saint John but still couldn’t get his first QMJHL win. The Sea Dogs netminder fell to 0-5-0-0 with a 6.95 goals against average and a 0.809 save percentage. Fournier has allowed four or more goals in six of his seven appearances this year.

GAGNE: Defenseman Kevin Gagne saw his 10-game point streak end yesterday. He finished the game with no points, a -3 rating, and one shot. It was the first time since November 16 that he didn’t record a point. Gagne is still second in defensemen scoring with 33 points and tied for most goals scored by a defenseman with 11.

KELLY: Aidan Kelly scored his second goal on the season on Sunday. His first came last Tuesday against Cape Breton when he scored into an empty net. Kelly now has two goals and eight assists in 31 games this year.

STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs missed a good chance to inch closer to the Rocket in the standings. Saint John fell back below the .500 with a 16-17-0-0 record. They remain fourth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 13^th overall in the league.

NOTES: Stephen MacAulay, Ryan Tesink, and Pierre Durepos were all a -4… MacAulay had five shots… Oliver Cooper had three hits… Ben Duffy had eight shots… rookie forward Alexis Pepin had five hits for PEI… Ross Yates ran the Sea Dogs bench again in Mike Kelly’s absence… this was Saint John’s final road game of the first half. They enter the break with an 8-9-0-0 road record.
