SAINT JOHN – On a day that the Saint John Sea Dogs announced they have been summoned to a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League hearing, it seems somewhat fitting that the Shawinigan Cataractes are in town to take on the Port City squad.

While there has been plenty of off-ice drama between the two over the years, this should be a solid game on the ice tonight. The Sea Dogs are fighting for playoff positioning while the Cataractes are trying to get into the post-season.

Eight points separate the two clubs. Saint John enters play with a 20-32-1-0 record and sit fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 15^th overall in the league. Meanwhile, Shawinigan sits sixth in the Telus East Division and 17^th overall in the league with a 13-34-5-2 record.

The Cataractes are just three points back of the Sherbrooke Phoenix who hold the final playoff spot.

The Dogs are 2-7-1-0 in their last 10 games and are coming off a rough 8-2 home loss to the Rimouski Oceanic on Sunday. Shawinigan has been decent of late and are 3-5-2-0 in their past 10 games.

Peter Sakaris leads the Cataractes in scoring with 39 points in 52 games. Jakub Izacky leads Saint John in scoring with 27 points in 48 games.

Tonight’s game kicks off an odd three-in-three where the Sea Dogs will play two home games and a road game. They host the Moncton Wildcats on Friday before travelling to PEI on Saturday.

LAST GAMES

The Sea Dogs are coming off an 8-2 loss to the Rimouski Oceanic on Sunday afternoon at Harbour Station. Oliver Cooper and Connor Donaghey scored for Saint John. Sebastien Auger allowed six goals on 32 shots in 40 minutes of action while Alex Fournier allowed two goals on 14 shots in relief.

The Cataractes are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Remparts in Quebec City on Sunday. Felix-Antoine Bergeron and Peter Sakaris scored for Shawinigan. Marvin Cupper made 43 saves in the loss.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The Sea Dogs are 0-1-1-0 against the Cataractes this season while Shawinigan is 2-0-0-0 against Saint John.

Their last meeting was on February 2 where the Cataractes defeated the Sea Dogs 3-2 in overtime. Peter Sakaris, Alexandre Delisle-Houde, and Frank Schumacher scored for Shawinigan while Saint John had goals from Spencer Smallman and Noah Zilbert. Marvin Cupper made 34 saves in the win and Sebastien Auger made 42 stops in the loss.

• This is the first game of a three-game Maritime road trip for Shawinigan. They play in Halifax tomorrow and Bathurst on Sunday.
• Alexandre Grandmaison is eighth in the league in penalty minutes with 109.
