Our recap. Saint John returned to Harbour Station on
Thursday night to battle it out against the PEI Rocket.

fans Thursday night at Harbour Station.

assists Thursday as the P.E.I. Rocket defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs 6-3 in
the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Hockey League action as PEI extended their wins streak with a 6-3 victory in
front of 3,112 fans.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without Connor Donaghey
(healthy), Matthew Highmore (lower body), Jeremy Doucet (healthy), and Jurij
Repe (sore hand) on Thursday night.

ABBOTT: Michael Abbott returned to the Saint John lineup
on Thursday. He hasn’t played since January 20 due to a lower body injury. He
was a -1 and had four shots.
FIRST: It wasn’t the greatest of opening periods for
Saint John. They were down 2-0 after one and out shot 15-7. Only one of the Sea
Dogs’ seven shots were listed as dangerous. Sebastien Auger made some big
saves.
DUREPOS: Pierre Durepos blasted a shot from the point at
5:49 of the second period on the power play to get the Sea Dogs on the board.
It was Durepos fifth goal of the season. He finished the game a team worst -3.
DUFFY: Big night for Ben Duffy on Thursday. Thanks to a
five-point performance last night, Duffy now leads the QMJHL in scoring with 82
points. The 20-year old forward had a goal and four assists last in his first
star performance.
CURRIE: Josh Currie had a goal and two assists last night and
now sits second in the league in scoring with 81 points.
SECOND: The Sea Dogs fell deeper into the hole early in
the second as the Rocket scored twice just over three minutes in. PEI led 5-1
after two. Saint John did catch up on the shot clock, out shooting PEI 16-12 in
the middle frame.
LAPLANTE: Yan-Pavel Laplante made his season debut for
the Rocket. He has missed the entire season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Last night, Laplante registered two shots and four hits.
SPECIAL TEAMS: There were three power play goals scored
last night. PEI went 2-for-7 and Saint John went 1-for-6.
COMEBACK: The Sea Dogs didn’t just go away in the third
despite being down 5-1. Noah Zilbert and Mackenzie Brown each scored to make it
5-3 and make a game of it. But penalties hurt Saint John’s chance of completing
a comeback. The Dogs pulled Auger but Josh Currier scored the empty netter with
24 seconds left.
BROWN: Mackenzie Brown scored his first goal of the
season in the third period. He has a goal and an assist in 20 games this year. Brown
was named third star. He had a goal and an assist in 13 games last season.
STREAKS: Saint John has now lost seven straight games
while PEI extended their winning streak to four games.
STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs still sit fifth in the Telus
Maritimes Division and 15th overall in the league with a 19-31-1-0
record. They are five points up on the Sherbrooke Phoenix who sit 16th.
NOTES: Lots of scouts at this game… before the game,
Jakub Izacky was named the Sea Dogs’ player of the month for January. David
Weckworth was named the student of the month… in an awkward moment during the
pre-game ceremony, it was announced Aidan Kelly was the team’s student of the
month… Ross Yates ran the Sea Dogs bench again with Mike Kelly away… Jimmy
Oligny had six shots on goal… Oliver Cooper had five shots… Maxime Villemaire
had four hits… PEI out hit Saint John 16-9… Andreas Tsogkas recorded his first point - an assist - since January 4... I’ve been in libraries louder than
Harbour Station last night.
