SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs and the Shawinigan Cataractes met for the second time this season in Saturday’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action as the Cataractes took the contest 3-2 in overtime.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without Matthew Highmore (lower body), Michael Abbott (lower body), Brett Malone (personal reasons), and Steven Duda (healthy) on Saturday.

DONAGHEY: Forward Connor Donaghey returned to the Sea Dogs lineup on Saturday. He hadn’t played since January 12 due to a shoulder injury. He had one shot and was a -1 in the loss.

DELISLE-HOUDE: Alexandre Delisle-Houde scored his first QMJHL goal in the first period. It was a beauty as he showed some patience in front of the net and deked out Sebastien Auger. He was playing in just his third game with Shawinigan.

GLASS: A Mackenzie Brown hit 4:41 into the second period broke a piece of glass along the side boards. Both teams headed to the dressing room as arena workers made repairs. There was a 20-30 minute delay, causing this game to take nearly three hours to complete.

A piece of glass broke during warm-up of a Sea Dogs/Cataractes game last season at Centre Bionest and there was a significant delay to start that game. It would have made for some exciting TV if some glass broke at the Memorial Cup last year.

SMALLMAN: Spencer Smallman scored his first QMJHL goal at 7:40 of the second period on a power play. The rookie forward has a goal and two assists in 26 games this season.

ZILBERT: Noah Zilbert had a two-point game, netting the game tying goal in the third period and also helped set up Smallman’s goal. The rookie forward now has six goals and five assists in 49 games this season.

POWER PLAY: Saint John’s power play had another good night, going 2-for-3. They went 3-for-9 in Friday’s 6-3 loss in Gatineau.

OVERTIME: This was the first overtime loss of the season for the Sea Dogs. They are now 5-1 in overtime games and 3-0 in shootout contests.

VS SHAWI: Saint John is just not having a good season against the team that eliminated them from the Memorial Cup last May. The Sea Dogs fell to 0-1-1-0 against the Cataractes this season while Shawinigan improved to 2-0-0-0 against Saint John. The two teams meet again on February 14 at Harbour Station.

STREAK: This was Saint John’s sixth straight loss (0-5-1-0). They are 1-8-1-0 in their past 10 games.

STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs at least got a point out of this game. They fell to 19-30-1-0 with yesterday’s loss and remain fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 15th overall in the league. They are five points ahead of the Sherbrooke Phoenix who sit 16th.

NOTES: Ross Yates ran the Sea Dogs bench again. Mike Kelly was away scouting… the camera work in Shawinigan continues to be all over the place. Not sure what’s going on there… Jason Cameron had five shots… David Weckworth had six hits… Frank Schumacher, the overtime hero, had seven shots… good to see some Sea Dogs players not named Izacky or Villemaire pick up some point over the past couple games… yet another 40+ save performance by Sebastien Auger.
