Sea Dogs loss to the Gatineau Olympiques…
Our recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs have now lost five
straight games.

The Canadian Press’ recap. Martin Reway and Derek
Sheppard each scored twice and Tomas Hyka had three assists as the Olympiques
(22-24-3) doubled up Saint John (19-30-0), which is winless in five games.
SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs
continued the road trip, visiting the Gatineau Olympiques on Friday. The
Olympiques came out on top 6-3 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without Matthew Highmore
(lower body), Connor Donaghey (shoulder), Michael Abbott (lower body), and
Brett Malone (personal reasons) on Friday night.
News 88.9 reports that Highmore is out indefinitely for
this road trip and will be re-evaluated when the team returns home. He left
Wednesday’s game in the second period with a lower body issue. The rookie
forward missed most of the first half recovery from shoulder surgery.
ANDERSON: Stephen Anderson now has goals in back-to-back
games after opening the scoring at 18:29 of the first. The goal came on the
power play after Gatineau was called for too many men. It was a nice reward for
a pretty good first period by the Dogs. Shots were 11-9 Saint John after 20
minutes.
REPE: Defenseman Jurij Repe finally made his return to
the Saint John lineup. He had not played with the team since November 25 because he
broke his hand at the Division 1 world juniors. The Slovenian made an immediate
impact, assisting on Stephen Anderson’s first period goal. He finished the game
with two assists, two shots, and two penalty minutes.
SECOND: Saint John let things slip away in the second
period. Gatineau scored three times – including twice on the power play – to lead
3-1 after two. Derek Sheppard had two goals and Rock Regimbald had the other.
Despite the lopsided scoring summary, shots were just only 6-5 Gatineau in the
middle stanza.
DICKINSON: Justin Dickinson dropped the gloves with
Mickael Beauregard at 7:51 of the second for a pretty good tilt. Dickinson was given a misconduct
for “not wearing a tied-down sweater, or without straps, or a player who has
one or both arms coming out the jersey, during a fight.” This according to the QMJHL website.
Dickinson picked up another misconduct in the third, this
time for unsportsmanlike conduct. He waved his arms in the air and got the
crowd wound up as he left the ice.
THIRD: The officials handed out misconducts in the third
period like candy on Halloween. Things got especially wild at the 13:09 mark.

To the surprise of nobody, the shift after Cameron, Saab,
and Villemaire were sent off, Emile Poirier cut through the crease and ran over Alex Fournier.
Jeff Kelly came out to have a look at the Sea Dogs goaltender but he was okay.
Nicolas Dutil was one of the referees last night. Dutil
was involved in the Saint John/Shawinigan round-robin game at the Memorial Cup
that got really, really ugly.
POWER PLAYS: Both teams had their power plays clicking.
Gatineau went 4-for-6 while Saint John went 3-for-9. Two of the Sea Dogs’ power
play goals were scored during 5-on-3 man advantages.
HYKA: Tomas Hyka registered three assists last night. He
is third on the team in scoring with 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 points in
39 games.
BOURRET: Former Sea Dogs defenseman Gabriel Bourret had
one shot and two penalty minutes last night.
FOURNIER: Alex Fournier got the start in goal for Saint
John and is still looking for his first QMJHL victory. The netminder allowed
six goals on 26 shots in last night’s game. He dropped to 0-8-0 with a 5.91
goals against average and 0.833 save percentage.
CUOMO: Marcus Cuomo scored his fifth goal of the season.
It was his first goal since November 16 and first point since January 16. He
has nine points in 45 games this year.
LEBLANC: Olivier LeBlanc scored his first goal since
October 26. He now has four goals and nine assists in 44 games.
STREAK: The Sea Dogs have now lost five straight games.
It is the longest active losing streak in the league.
STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs dropped to 19-30-0-0 with last
night’s loss. They remain fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 15th
overall in the league. Their next win will give them 20 wins and 40 points.
NOTES: Ross Yates ran the Sea Dogs bench with Mike Kelly
away scouting once again… Maxime
Villemaire had four shots… Jason Cameron had two hits… David Weckworth was a -2
against his old team… Emile Poirier and Simon Tardif-Richard each had five
shots… Derek Sheppard had two hits.
