SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs met the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at the KC Irving Regional Centre in Friday’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. The Sea Dogs snapped their streak with a 6-4 victory.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without Matthew Highmore (lower body), Jurij Repe (hand), Steven Duda (healthy), and Justin Dickinson (healthy) on Friday night.

KELLY: Former Sea Dogs forward Aidan Kelly did not play for the Titan. According to News 88.9, Kelly is out with a head injury. The Saint John native has three assists in eight games with Bathurst.

GOALIE SWAP: Mason McDonald got the start in net for the Titan but was quickly taken out. After playing just 3:25, McDonald left the game with an apparent equipment issue so Jacob Brennan took over. Brennan played 3:11 before McDonald returned to the cage.

McDonald was pulled again – this time for good – after Andreas Tsogkas made it 3-0 at 1:31 of the second. The rookie netminder allowed three goals on nine shots. Brennan allowed three goals on 27 shots in relief.

IZACKY: Jakub Izacky opened the scoring at 14:11 while on a five-on-three power play. It was Izacky’s 16th goal of the season but his first since January 26. Izacky, Saint John’s leading scorer, has 27 points in 47 games this season.

FIRST: Saint John had a strong first period and led 2-0 after one. Izacky and Maxime Villemaire had goals for Saint John, both of which were scored on the power play. The Dogs had a few good scoring chances in the frame but were out shot 13-9 by the Titan.

TSOGKAS: Andreas Tsogkas finally scored his first goal of the season in the second period of this one. The former OHLer had scored his last CHL goal on October 23, 2011 in Brampton’s 4-0 win over Peterborough. Tsogkas now has a goal and eight assists in 42 games with Saint John this season.

O’BRIEN: Saint John was up 3-0 in the second and then Zach O’Brien went to work. He scored at 5:08 and again at 7:47 while shorthanded. He also had an assist in the game. The 20-year old now has 78 points in 53 games.

MEREDITH: Andrew Meredith was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for charging at 6:47 of the second period after he ran over Alex Fournier in the Saint John net. The Sea Dogs would not score on the man advantage.

SECOND: Wild second period with lots of goals and lots of penalties. Saint John led 4-2 after two. Shots were 17-14 Bathurst in the frame.

THIRD: The Titan scored two quick goals in the third to tie it 4-4. But Stephen Anderson scored what would prove to be the game-winner at 8:11. Maxime Villemaire added an insurance marker at 11:23. Shots were 17-13 Bathurst in the third.

DUREPOS: Pierre Durepos had a big night, registering four assists. The Sea Dogs captain has five goals and 17 assists in 29 games this season.

ANDERSON: Stephen Anderson had a goal last night. Over his past six games, he has three goals and three assists.

FOURNIER: It took a few months, but Alex Fournier finally picked up his first QMJHL win with a 43-save performance. It was only a matter of time as he has gradually gotten closer and closer to that first win over his past few starts. Fournier is now 1-8-0 with a 5.72 GAA and 0.844 SV%.

POWER PLAY: A couple weeks ago we were all talking about how bad Saint John’s power play looked. Well, it has been good of late and went an impressive 4-for-6 last night.

STREAK: This game ended a seven-game losing streak for Saint John. Their last win was a 2-1 shootout victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on January 19. Their last regulation time win was on New Year’s Eve, a 3-1 victory over the Moncton Wildcats.
