Goaltender Sebastien Auger was honoured for his
tremendous season on Tuesday night at the Delta Brunswick, taking home five
awards at the Saint John Sea Dogs annual awards banquet
Auger was named the Bell Aliant Most Valuable Player and Tim
Horton’s Most Improved player. He also took home the Children’s Wish Foundation
Fans Choice Award, the Irving Oil Team Player Award and the Alpine Three Stars
Award.
The second-year goaltender finished the season with a
22-31-1-0 record to go along with a 3.33 goals against average and 0.907 save
percentage. His save percentage was the fifth best in the league this season. Auger was unreal in net this year. For a franchise that has had goaltending development issues since,
well, forever, it was great to see.
Sea Dogs captain Pierre Durepos was named the Saint John
Airport Academic Player of the Year and Sun Life Global Investments Top
Defenceman.
Veteran forward Jason Cameron was awarded the Scotiabank
Community Service Award and import forward Jakub Izacky, who led the team in
the scoring with 38 points in 63 games, took home the Pepsi Top Scorer Award.
The Grant Thornton Rookie of the Year Award was given to
two players – forward Stephen Anderson and defenseman Olivier LeBlanc.
No Sea Dogs players are nominated for league awards this
season.
Saint John kicks off the post-season on Friday night in
Halifax.
