SYDNEY, NS – For the final time this season, the Saint
John Sea Dogs and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles meet. Game time today is 4pm at Centre
200 for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League contest.
This is a fairly significant game for Saint John if they
want to move up in the standings. With four games to play on their regular
season schedule, the Sea Dogs find themselves in 16th-place,
one-point back of the 15th-place Sherbrooke Phoenix. The Screaming
Eagles are the only opponent left on Saint John’s schedule that does not sit in
the upper half of the league. So if the Dogs want to pick up points and move
ahead of Sherbrooke, today’s match is crucial.
Where the Sea Dogs finish will determine their playoff
seed and where they select in June’s QMJHL Entry Draft (unless the
Tesink/Armada thing screws that up).
The Sea Dogs enter play today with a 23-40-1-0 record
which places them fifth in the Telus Maritimes Division and 16th
overall. Saint John is 10-19-1-0 on the road this season and have been
outscored 136-84.
Saint John is 3-7-0-0 in their last 10 games and are
coming off a 2-1 win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Friday night at Harbour
Station. It was the Sea Dogs’ final home game of the regular season.
Jakub Izacky is the Sea Dogs’ active leading scorer with 20
goals and 15 assists for 35 points in 59 games.
Cape Breton has already been mathematically eliminated
from the playoffs, putting the cherry on top of a terrible season.
The Screaming Eagles sit dead last in the league with a
13-43-3-5 record. Not that it matters a whole lot, but Cape Breton sits three
points back of the 17th-place Shawinigan Cataractes with four games
to play.
William Carrier is still Cape Breton’s leading scorer with
16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points in 34 games. Unfortunately for the
Eagles, Carrier has not played since December 14 due to injury. That’s the kind
of season it has been in the CB.

LAST GAMES
The Sea Dogs are coming off a 2-1 win over the
Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Friday night at Harbour Station. Stephen Anderson and
Maxime Villemaire each scored for Saint John. Sebastien Auger made 44 saves in
the win.
The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 6-0 loss to the PEI
Rocket on Friday night. David Honzik allowed five goals on 33 shots while Alex
Bureau allowed one on seven shots.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
The Sea Dogs are 5-2-0-0 against the Screaming Eagles
this season while Cape Breton is 2-4-0-1 against Saint John. This is their
final meeting of the regular season.
The two teams last met on February 27 at Harbour Station
where the Sea Dogs defeated the Screaming Eagles 4-2. Matthew Highmore had two
goals while singles came from Connor Donaghey and Stephen Anderson for Saint
John. Stephen Woodworth and Clark Bishop had goals for Cape Breton. Sebastien
Auger made 39 saves in the win while Alex Bureau made 30 in the loss.

- The Eagles play their final home game of the regular season on Wednesday against Halifax.
- The Eagles have two wins against just two teams this season: Saint John and Drummondville.
