POSTSCRIPT: Tigres 4, Sea Dogs 3

A collection of recaps from last night’s 4-3 Saint John Sea Dogs loss to the Victoriaville Tigres…

Our recap. It was Country Night at Harbour Station on Friday, and if Taylor Swift was a Sea Dogs fan, she could probably write some stupid song about this game.

The Telegraph-Journal’s recap (paywall). Philippe Maillet scored with 39.9 seconds left in the game to lift the Victoriaville Tigres to a 4-3 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs Friday night at Harbour Station. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League contest attracted 5,087 fans.

News 88.9’s recap. Featuring Tim Roszell’s goal calls.

The Canadian Press’ recap. Philippe Maillet scored the winner with 40 seconds left and he set up each of his club's other three goals as Victoriaville (29-24-8) slipped past the Sea Dogs (22-38-1) for their third win in a row.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs dropped a 4-3 decision to the Victoriaville Tigres in front of 5,087 fans at Harbour Station in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Friday night.

SCRATCHES: Michael Abbott (healthy), Brett Malone (healthy), and Jeremy Doucet (healthy) were scratched from the Saint John lineup on Friday night.

IZACKY: Early in the first, Jakub Izacky collided with a teammate near the blue line and landed on the ice in pain. Jeff Kelly came out to have a look at the Sea Dogs import who was clutching his knee. He skated off on his own and returned in time to help setup Saint John’s first goal at 3:33. He finished the game with two assists and a -2 rating.

VILLEMAIRE: Maxime Villemaire had two goals on Friday night. He now has nine goals and eight assists in 22 games with Saint John this year. He also had three shots, three hits, went 3/4 in faceoffs, and was a -3 last night.

DUDA: Six penalty minutes for defenseman Steven Duda last night. He got a cross checking, slashing, and a roughing call in this game. Not good. He was a +1, though.

TSOGKAS: Andreas Tsogkas scored just his second goal of the season on Friday, netting Saint John’s second goal in the first period. He now has two goals and eight assists in 51 games.

MAILLET: Quite a game for Philippe Maillet who was named first star. Maillet was in on all four Victoriaville goals, finishing the night with a goal and three helpers. He also had the game-winner, scoring a heart breaking goal with 40 second left in the game. It was an impressive goal, too, as he made a couple moves to create some room before ripping a shot past Sebastien Auger. Maillet was also a team best +4 and had a team high six shots.

SHORTHANDED: The Tigres scored a shorthanded goal at 5:45 of the second period, giving them a 3-2 lead at the time. It was the 11th shorthanded goal the Sea Dogs have allowed this season, the fifth most in the league.

POWER PLAY: Saint John had a pretty good night on the power play, going 2-for-5. The Sea Dogs also kept Victoriaville’s man advantage, ranked fourth in the league entering the contest, to no goals on six opportunities.

VS VICTO: This was the final game of the three-game season series between Victoriaville and Saint John. The Tigres won all three games but two of them were decided by one-goal and another by two.

STANDINGS: With seven games remaining in the regular season, the Sea Dogs and Sherbrooke Phoenix are tied at 45 points each. The Phoenix pulled off a big 5-2 win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada last night. They’ll likely both make the playoffs, but where they finish will determine their first-round opponent and, probably more importantly, where they’ll draft in June.

ATTENDANCE: A solid crowd of 5,087 watched this one at Harbour Station. It was the third time this season a crowd of over 5,000 watched a Dogs at 99 Station St. With two home games remaining, Saint John is averaging 3,891 fans per game.

NOTES: It was Country Night at Harbour Station… this was the final Quebec based team Saint John will play in the regular season…Jonathan Diaby was a +3... William Cochrane and Tommy Veilleux each had four hits... Maxime Villemaire and Jurij Repe were each a -3.
