Sea Dogs Billboards Are No More

SAINT JOHN - If you haven’t noticed, the Sea Dogs championship billboards have been taken down and replaced with new ones (like the one pictured above) which shows Saint John has a vibrant Uptown or something.

SN’s Tim Lumsden has been emailing back and forth with city hall people about the change. The signs, which we are told are not owned by the city, were apparently replaced because they were old and dated which, to be honest, is kind of true. It would still be nice to have something to commemorate the championship(s) in the city other than those street lamp banners on Station St. [EDIT: most of the street banners have disappeared around HS and the LBR]

The 2011 Memorial Cup Champion billboards were up for a couple years.
A large “2012 President Cup Champions” sticker was added to them last year.

R.I.P. Sea Dogs billboards.

  1. Something on the highway side of Harbour Station would be nice where the banners hang. Could be marked as the Home of the Memorial Cup & Presidents Cup Champs with the years they won or something similar.

  2. Word from the City Manager was that my complaint was the first they had heard. So let's go SJ Fans, make your voice known.

It only takes a moment to send an email.

http://www.saintjohn.ca/en/home/cityhall/mayor-and-council/councillors/default.aspx lists all of the Council's contact email.

If you can't email, call or snail mail.

Deputy Mayor Shelley Rinehart is a supporter of the Sea Dogs and their accomplishments but in order to help us get help from the city to get a permenant tribute of the win, she needs to know that the fans are behind her!

  3. The comments about them being outdated may be true.... However the photo that now graces at least one of these billboards is a minimum of 7 years old... if not longer.

If City Council/City planning wants to promote a "vibrate downtown" (their words, not mine) they may want to use some more recent photography that shows the true UPTOWN of the city.

As a compromise, why can't they add a banner to the sign that simply says "Home of the 2011 Memorial Cup Champions ".... Would that be so bad?
