ALUMNI GAME

A reminder that, if you haven’t already, you should pick up some tickets to the Wallace McCain Memorial Alumni Game. There are only 2,500 tickets available for the game and they’ve been on sale for a few weeks, so…

The game will take place on Saturday, August 24^th at 1:30pm at Harbour Station and will feature the Sea Dogs Alumni taking on the UNB Varsity Reds Alumni. There will be a fun fair and BBQ in the parking lot from 3-6:30pm that day as well.

HUBERDEAU

Jonathan Huberdeau returned to the ice yesterday for the first time since having hip surgery in May.

“First time on the ice today since the surgery ,” Huberdeau tweeted yesterday.

“Felt great on the ice yesterday,” he tweeted today. “Can't wait to start again this year.”

Playing with Florida Panthers in the lockout shortened campaign, the former Sea Dogs captain registered 14 goals and 17 assists in 48 games. He hopes to be ready for Panthers training camp next month.

"[You have to] take it slowly. It's a process and I think I am just following it," the Calder Trophy winner told NHL.com.

"It doesn't matter that I have the Calder Trophy," Huberdeau added. "My surgery threw me down a little bit and I am just trying to train harder and harder."

MOORE

As STUTommies.com noted a couple weeks ago, former Sea Dogs defenseman Jordan Moore has committed to St. Thomas University where he’ll play AUS hockey with the Tommies.

Moore played in two regular season games and four playoff games with Saint John in 2011-12, recording no points. He also played with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and PEI Rocket in his QMJHL career.

Moore registered 13 goals and 36 assists in 52 games with the Pictou County Weeks Crushers of the MHL last year.

ROUSSEL

The website OddManRush.ca had an interview with former Sea Dogs defenseman Charles-Olivier Roussel last week.

The Nashville Predators prospect spent last season in the ECHL and AHL. He recorded six goals and 11 assists in 40 ECHL games with the Cincinnati Cyclones and an assist in 17 AHL contests with the Milwaukee Admirals.

“Last season was a good learning year for me, it went well,” Roussel told the website. “I got used to changing teams and having to prove myself every game. I think that this will be helpful in the long run.”

DACCORD

The Goalie Guild has a big scouting report on American netminder Joel (or is it Joey?) Daccord, an 11^th round pick of the Sea Dogs in the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft. No clue what the chances are of him reporting to Saint John for training camp. He’s called “a legitimate NCAA D-I prospect.”
