Former Saint John Sea Dogs defenseman Eric Gelinas scored
his first National Hockey League goal on Thursday night.
Gelinas scored on the power play at 9:41 of the first
period of Thursday’s contest between the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver
Canucks. The Devils lost 3-2 in a shootout.
Congrats to Gelinas who, along with being named third
star in this game, currently has more goals this season than Claude Giroux.
Gelinas was recalled from the American Hockey League’s
Albany Devils yesterday and was making his season debut. He played in one NHL
game last season.

A few other things:
- The Vancouver Canucks made a bit of a surprise announcement today when they called up former Sea Dogs defenseman Yann Sauve who hasn’t played a NHL game since the 2010-11 season. According to Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy the call up had something to do with the salary cap. Sauve, who has two assists in four AHL games with the Utica Comets this year, did not play vs the Devils.
- Jonathan Huberdeau has three goals and two assists in 10 games with the Florida Panthers.
- Nathan Beaulieu, who has been constantly called up and down from the AHL this season, assisted on Michael Bournival's first period goal in tonight's 4-1 Montreal Canadiens win over the Anaheim Ducks.
- The injured Charlie Coyle skated with the Minnesota Wild this morning.
- The longest article you’ll read all day: the Grand Rapids Griffins website’s feature on Tomas Jurco. The skilled Slovak has one goal and four assists in five games with the AHL’s Griffins this season.
