SYDNEY – Two of the top teams in the Maritimes Division
meet tonight at Centre 200 in Sydney.
The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, who sit third in the
division with a 3-2-0-2 record, host the Saint John Sea Dogs, 4-2-0-1 and
second in the division, this evening at 7pm in Quebec Major Junior Hockey
League action.
Both of these teams have played fairly well of late.
Saint John has won back-to-back games heading into tonight’s contest while Cape
Breton is 3-0-0-1 in their past four games.
The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-2 victory over the
Halifax Mooseheads on Tuesday night at Harbour Station. Michael Abbott had a
pair of goals in that game. Saint John’s power play has really been clicking
lately and went 3-for-6 on Tuesday.
Abbott’s three-point night pushed him back into the team
point lead with eight (three goals and five assists) points. Stephen Anderson is
second on the squad in points with seven while Olivier LeBlanc and Oliver
Cooper each have six. Abbott, Anderson, and Nathan Noel are all tied for the
team goal scoring lead with three each.
The Screaming Eagles have turned things around after
starting the year off with three straight loses. They are, however, coming off a
shootout loss on Sunday in Rimouski where they were only able to record 17 shots on
goal.
Cape Breton is led by American forward Cameron Darcy who
is off to a great star. He sits in a tie for the league point lead with 14 (four
goals and 10 assists) in seven games this year. Darcy, a 10th-round
pick of the Eagles in the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft, spent last season with the
USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks and Northeastern University.
Much like Saint John, Cape Breton is in rebuild mode.
This is the first meeting of the year between the two and hopefully this is the
beginning of a solid season series.

LAST GAMES
The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-2 win over the Halifax
Mooseheads on Tuesday night at Harbour Station. Michael Abbott scored twice
while singles came from Olivier LeBlanc and Matthew Highmore. Sebastien Auger
made 30 saves in the win.
The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss
in Rimouski on Sunday. Matthew Donnelly had a pair of goals while Charles-Eric
Legare also scored. Alex Bureau made 28 saves in the loss.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
This is the first meeting of the season between the two.
The Sea Dogs went 5-3-0-0 last year against the Screaming
Eagles while Cape Breton went 3-4-0-1 against Saint John.
