News & Notes From Saturday's Game

Some news and notes from last night’s Sea Dogs game…

• If you somehow haven’t heard, the Sea Dogs ended their nine-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory last night. It was their first win since October 6^th in Bathurst and first home win since October 1^st. The nine-game skid is the second longest losing streak in the league this year behind Shawinigan’s 11.
• Last night’s victory was also Saint John’s 300^th franchise regular season win.
• While Saint John ended their losing streak, Charlottetown extended theirs. After getting off to a hot start, the Islanders have dropped five straight. They are in Moncton this afternoon.
• It was “Support our Troops Night” at Harbour Station. There was a pre-game ceremony and 158 seats were left empty in the upper bowl to honour those lost in Afghanistan (pictured).
• What a night for Oliver Cooper. The Fredericton native recorded his first career hat trick and had an assist in the win. Cooper now has seven goals this season, matching his total from all of last season. 
• Matthew Highmore added a goal and an assist in the win. It was his first goal since October 16^th.
• Marcus Cuomo returned to the Sea Dogs lineup on Saturday night. It was his first game since October 1^st. Cuomo had one shot and went 0/3 in the faceoff circle.
• Every Charlottetown player had at least one shot in this game. The Islanders out shot the Sea Dogs 48-38 overall, including 23-11 in the third period.
• You know Sebastien Auger is a good goalie when he makes 46 saves and we are all just kind of “yeah, no big deal” about it. What a goaltender.
• Sea Dogs scratches were forwards Samuel Dove-McFalls (upper body) and Mackenzie Brown (upper body) along with defensemen Will Thompson (upper body) and Michael Abbott (upper body). Forward Brett Malone was sent back to MHL Miramichi.

NOTES: A woman flipped off the kiss cam in the second period… decent crowd of 3,603 at the game. It was the second largest crowd of the year… the Sea Dogs had seven power play opportunities and scored on two of them… Cooper led the Sea Dogs in shots with seven… Kameron Kielly had six hits.
