Donaghey Sent Down

The Sea Dogs announced this morning that Connor Donaghey has been reassigned to the Maritime Junior A Hockey League’s Yarmouth Mariners.

Donaghey, a 19-year old forward from St. John’s, had two assists in 22 games with Saint John this year. He played in 15 games with the Dogs last season, recording three goals and three assists.

It’s not a huge shock to see Donaghey sent down. He has been a healthy scratch quite a bit this season and wasn’t able to replicate the numbers he put up last year with the club. With Saint John rebuilding, the acquisition of Nicolas Hebert, and whatever is going on with Mathieu Joseph, the move makes sense.

According to a Sea Dogs release, he will remain an affiliate player.

Donaghey played 29 games with the Mariners last season, registering nine goals and 20 assists. Yarmouth sits third in the MHL’s Eastlink Division with a 20-9-2-0 record. Getting Donaghey back is a big addition.

As for the Sea Dogs, they are in Rimouski tomorrow night to take on the Oceanic.
