News & Notes From Saturday's Game

Stuff from last night’s game…
  • The Sea Dogs have now lost six straight games at Harbour Station.
  • What a game for Nikolaj Ehlers. The rookie import had a goal and four assists last night, giving him possession of the Mooseheads team point lead. He passed Jonathan Drouin who has obviously played fewer games.
  • Marcus Cuomo scored his second goal of the season on a power play in the first period. It was his first goal since September 22nd.
  • Mooseheads winger Samuel Leblanc took a puck to the head in the first period. He was down on the ice for a short time but would head to the dressing room on his own.
  • Austyn Hardie drilled Joey Richard into the end boards at 4:48 of the second period. Hardie and Kelly Bent then dropped the gloves. Hardie was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for fighting while Bent picked up the instigator stuff. Meanwhile, Richard had to be helped off the ice and appeared to be favouring his arm/upper body. He did not return.
  • The Richard injury came just moments after Samuel Dove-McFalls left the game with an injury.
  • Noah Zilbert scored at 11:25 of the second and then Nicolas Hebert scored at 11:32 to make it 3-1 Saint John. The goals, which came seven seconds apart, are the fastest back-to-back goals in team history.
  • Zilbert’s goal was assisted by call-up defenseman Bailey Webster who now has three assists in two games.
  • Hebert’s goal was his third of the season and first as a Sea Dog. Mathieu Joseph assisted on the goal, giving him his first QMJHL point.
  • Saint John led 3-1 in the second period but Halifax scored four unanswered goals – including three in the third period – to win 5-3.
  • The Sea Dogs are at least staying in games of late. Each of their past six games have been decided by two goals or less.
  • Nice to see some different players step up offensively last night. The Dogs scored three goals but Olivier LeBlanc, Matthew Highmore, Oliver Cooper, and Stephen Anderson were held pointless.
  • Sea Dogs scratches were forwards Nathan Noel (Under-17s), Mackenzie Brown (healthy), Lukas Walter (healthy), and Connor Donaghey (healthy) along with defensemen Will Thompson (Under-17s), Michael Abbott (hand), and Alexander McQuaid (healthy).

NOTES: Sea Dogs wore their white jerseys… in a pre-game ceremony, Irving made a $37,000+ donation to the United Way… $3,421 went to the 50/50 winner… Nikolaj Ehlers had a Mooseheads high six shots… MacKenzie Weegar had two hits… Joey Richard and Noah Zilbert each had three shots… Bailey Webster had four hits… Sea Dogs won 34 of 64 faceoffs.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs take on the Titan this afternoon at 3pm at Harbour Station.
