Team Atlantic Finishes 8th

Team Atlantic finished eighth at this year’s World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Cape Breton.

The team played in the seventh-place game on Saturday in Port Hawkesbury and fell 3-2 to the Czech Republic. Sea Dogs forward Nathan Noal had a goal and an assist in the loss while Mitchell Balmas, a top prospect for this year’s QMJHL Entry Draft, had two assists.

Noel finished the tournament with two goals and four assists, putting him in a tie with Alexandre Jacob for the Team Atlantic point lead with six. His four assists were a team high.

Defenseman Will Thompson, the only other Sea Dog playing in this year’s event, was held pointless in the five games.

Team USA won the tournament, defeating Team Pacific in the Gold Medal Game on Saturday at Centre 200.

This was the final year for Team Atlantic. Beginning next year, Canada will send three national teams rather than five regional teams.
