Jason Cameron Commits To STU

The St. Thomas Tommies finally confirmed today that former Sea Dogs forward Jason Cameron has committed to play at the school this fall.

“Jason is a hard working player that can be a shut-down centerman and defensive stalwart in important situations,” said Tommies head coach Pat Powers in an article on the team’s website. “His credentials speak for themselves and we are happy to have him in the green and gold.”

Cameron was s sixth round selection of the Sea Dogs in the 2010 QMJHL Entry Draft. He played in four seasons with the club, recording 17 goals and 18 assists in 240 regular season games and two goals and two assists in 23 post-season contests.

The 21-year old helped the Sea Dogs win the 2011 and 2012 President’s Cups and - although he didn’t play due to injury – the 2011 Memorial Cup.

Cameron’s older brother, former Moncton Wildcat Randy Cameron, has played with the Tommies the past four seasons. Randy recently signed with the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators.

Cameron joins a STU program that has been in a major rebuilding mode over the past couple seasons. Despite some bad seasons in recent years, another solid recruiting class appears to have them heading in a positive direction.

St. Thomas begins exhibition play on September 15 against the UNB Varsity Reds.
