RECAP: Dogs Win 7-5

FINAL: Saint John 7, Charlottetown 5
CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – For a team that is expected to have its struggles offensively this season, the Saint John Sea Dogs have shown signs of promise over the past two games.

The Sea Dogs recorded 54 shots on goal in Friday’s 4-3 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders. Tonight, the Dogs scored seven goals in a 7-5 pre-season victory over the Isles at Eastlink Centre.

Matthew Highmore led the way offensively with two goals while singles came from Thomas Chabot, Luke Green, Nathan Noel, Adam Marsh, and Samuel Dove-McFalls. Blade Mann-Dixon got the start in net for Saint John and made seven saves. He was replaced at the midway mark by Bobby Dugan who made 10 saves.

Charlottetown had goals from Keith Getson, Daniel Sprong, Mitchell Balmas, Ryan MacKinnon, and Alexandre Goulet. Daryl MacCallum, who got the start on Friday night in Saint John, made 23 saves in 60 minutes of action.

Saint John’s power play had a strong night, going 4-for-8. The Dogs had two man advantage goals in the first to go up 3-2 after one and added another two in the third to lead 5-3.

The Islanders tied the game in the third period but Chabot’s goal at 8:48 proved to be the winner. Dove-McFalls added a shorthanded insurance marker at 13:03.

  • Oliver Cooper had two assists, two shots, and four penalty minutes.
  • This was the second of three straight meetings between the two.
  • Saint John finishes the pre-season with a 4-1-0-1 record. They outscored opponents 24-17.

The Sea Dogs and Islanders open the regular season against each other this Friday at Eastlink Centre.
